He’s yet to lose any chubby-cheeked remnants of childhood but he looks tired, bone-deep like a good night’s sleep has been evading him for a couple of years now. Other than that, his hand shakes where he’s gripping the phone. Separated by glass, Arthur’s does too.

Such impossible contradiction: the way Xie’er moves so seamlessly between chastened child and hardened killer. Zhao Jing has seen him drive a poisoned blade into the back of a fully grown man without any change in expression. Here, he seems but a moment away from helpless tears.
The power of it charges through his meridians like qi stolen from the gods themselves, and Zhao Jing nods. And smiles.

It comes to Zhao Jing's attention that there is something else in this wuxia world that he might want.
Even if that particular thing has actually been his since the very beginning.

I'll start by briefly describing how Li Daikun (who played the role of Xie Wang) and Wang Ruolin (who played the role of Zhao Jing) interpreted their characters since in this analysis, I will rely primarily on their interpretations. In the case of Word of Honor, the opinion of the actors is of particular importance, since the director gave them more freedom of action, and the original book differs significantly from the serial adaptation. Links to interviews and other sources are provided at the end of the post.
Li Daikun and Wang Ruolin deliberately did not discuss with each other in advance how they would play their scenes together - each moved in its own direction to make the dissonance, the misunderstanding between Zhao Jing and Xie Wang more obvious...

Summary
Xie'er tastes of alcohol and salt where their lips meet. Perhaps he's been crying again. Zhao Jing can't tell, because his own eyes are closed as his hands move to scrabble at his belts, at the alien intricacies of the black clothing he wears. It doesn't matter. None of this matters. Zhao Jing had made his plans before Xie Jie Liubo had come into his life. Those plans will go on even after he is long gone from it.
After the banquet, Zhao Jing reflects on what he stands to lose even as he gains everything he ever wanted.

Summary
Xie Wang is unable to recall a time when he did not desire Zhao Jing. Even in his early youthful adoration there was a jealous possessiveness, a need to see that man as his and his alone.
He was his. There was no path, no world in which this was not the case, even though his beloved Yifu was still unaware of it.
Xie Wang’s mannerisms were usually perfectly pliant and submissive when they were together. It came easy to him. He had learned from the best, after all. However, Zhao Jing had not raised a concubine; he had raised a scorpion, and every scorpion has a sting.

Summary
Xie’er knew he was likely crossing into dangerous territory but he found himself driven by the times he had so badly wanted to touch his Yifu but hadn’t dared. Or hadn’t been allowed. He remembered every night that he’d spent alone, unable to freely stand by his Yifu’s side, to lay in his bed. The painful memories had Xie’er dipping his fingers to tease the skin on the inside of Zhao Jing’s thigh, flirting with what lay between them.

Xie Wang is aware he should know better.

"His mouth – which Zhao Jing suspects is going to cause a lot of trouble when he grows up – is closed, his bottom lip tight. It looks so much better relaxed, but he supposes Xie'er can’t help it. There’s a furrow between his brows, as though Xie'er is trying to appear calm but not quite succeeding. Despite his expression, his already delicate face is almost doll-like underwater: something about the quality of the light softens it and turns the golden and pink undertones in the skin to inert grays and blues. "

Shifting, uncomfortable in his seat, Xie’er lifted the cup of wine in front of him to his mouth. He turned, watched as Zhao Jing served the Immortal Ye between them, smile splitting his face. It was familiar now, watching Yifu mute his already meek existence in the face of anyone he thought he could eventually manipulate. He watched as Zhao Jing mimicked the subservience Xie’er gave him when they were alone. And when it became too painful to watch, Xie’er averted his eyes, looked anywhere but the physical embodiment of the two desires warring in his mind.

Xie’er finds himself intrigued by the Immortal Ye. Zhao Jing notices, retakes his control. Takes place during/after the banquet in Ep 32, but don’t look too closely.
