Neve starts to suspect that Rook and Emmrich are growing rather fond of each other. Of course, she's left with only one thing to do: investigate. Luckily, she isn't the only one noticing blossoming relationships in the Lighthouse.
The first one she needled about it was Lucanis. It was after dinner one night and as soon as dish duty was finished, she found him in the pantry with his nose in a demitasse. He lifted it long enough to answer her question.
"Mierda. Is that why they slip off after dinner so quickly?" Lucanis wondered aloud. "As soon as Emmrich clears his plate, Rook discards whatever is left on hers and follows him. She is wasting a lot of good pasta this way."
She smiled at the last statement, and decided to change the topic of conversation to dinner. And how good it was. And what was on the menu for tomorrow.

Medusa stares at him, eyes hectic and flaring in a single, surprised moment before she ducks her head, the snakes around her face extending flickering tongues into the air between them. Chains hold her arms at her sides, and a corporal slams a bowl down, glaring at Hephaestus as the known quantity.
“You feed her,” he snaps. “Not like the snakes will get you.”
For a moment, Hephaestus and Medusa, two who have not spoken in millennia and rarely even then, meet each other’s eyes in perfect accord, amazed that this child-human thinks snakes are the problem.
“They are meant to swap us,” Medusa says, her Greek from 5th century Athens and almost enough to make Hephaestus think she is visiting him halfway to Lemnos, angry about a shield. “Swap you for me, so you can get out of here. Rejoin the whole mess of them. But it looks like they—”
“—want to keep a monster with their monster-maker?” Hephaestus answers in the same language, while their captors glare and one intrepid soul appears to want to make headway with a pocket dictionary. “I could have told you that,” he says, shaking his head. “And I wouldn’t leave someone here. Not you. Not anyone.”
