They aren’t really talking. Or, they are, but it’s Stede filling all the silences and Ed reacting with a nod or a shrug or hmm. Once in a while a, “yeah, mate,” or “thank you,” or calling him goldfish which Stede has decided to take as a compliment.
There are a lot of positives.

Stede takes in a deep breath and smiles. “Ed, I—” he says, but that’s as far as he gets before Ed’s pulling the gun out of its holster.
He aims, and Stede manages to yelp and duck just in the nick of time. The wood behind him splinters. “Fucking hell!” he yells, and springs back up into standing position. He takes a second to mourn the scarred wood before turning to Ed. “I know I cocked things up, but there’s no need to be dramatic!”
1717. The Golden Age of Piracy. Stede Bonnet sets about wooing the love of his life through any means necessary.

Summary
Hubert is not avoiding Ferdinand—nothing so gauche as that. He has simply been giving him space. He knows well that a man like Ferdinand cannot be expected to recover from killing his father so brutally in only a few days, and he knows equally well that he is the last person Ferdinand will want to speak to in the depths of his grief. His castigation of Hubert’s actions with regard to his own father is still far too clear in Hubert’s mind for that.
Hubert and Ferdinand are trying to navigate the shift in their relationship caused by Ferdinand's father's death when Ferdinand is kidnapped by TWSITD. What will be left when the dust settles? Can Hubert put aside his duty to Edelgard enough to make space for this growing new love?
Set directly after 3hopes SB chapter 13, spoilers for that chapter and Ferdinand and Shez A support (as well as references to various other supports)

What harm was there in daydreaming?
Ferdinand would learn the harm, however, when he is kidnapped - yet again! - by the strangest and most questionably organized of captors.
Flayn must reach deep inside herself to find her mightiest, truest self in order to save her one true crush from certain evil.
