ZoZo, meanwhile, decides to wait outside, monitoring the situation, though it's clear that after all these years, there is something on her mind about her brother dearest.

Ted is knuckle-deep in a bag of chips when he sees something shift in his peripherals. He pauses. A moment of stillness replaces his initial unease with the thought that he’s finally gone insane — two days with no sleep, aimlessly wandering what California has to offer, and only now has he lost it. He half-smiles at the irony, continuing his pace until the thing shifts again. And again. And again. Somewhere distant, far enough from his line of sight that he can just barely make it out, a silhouette continues to move without sound.
Ted accepts it. This is death for certain.
