“There’s a body in the garden.”
The words were spoken calmly, while Bucky kept his eyes locked onto the gangly form prostrate in the dirt outside. When he’d spotted it in a casual pass of the window, he’d experienced shock for all of half a second before he’d quickly transitioned into acceptance and wariness.
He stepped back from the window as Steve rushed up, a damp blue dish towel in his hands. Steve’s eyes immediately narrowed in on the form that was face down by the tomato plants. It was a good sign that Bucky wasn’t hallucinating, and a bad sign in that it meant the corpse in the garden was real.
Steve gave Bucky a look, the corners of his mouth sternly downturned.
“I didn’t put it there,” Bucky said, just in case that was in question.

“He is not here,” Thor stated, frustration coming through his tone. “Not anymore. He might have sensed us coming.”
“The blood traces stop near the door.” the Spider asserted flatly after a few instants, provoking another short pause. Loki, at the exact words, told himself to cover his tracks better if something similar happened a second time, caught off guard or not.
“If he is still bleeding like that, he might not be far.”
Or, Loki left before the Avengers could arrest him. It changes a lot of things.

Summary
Four years ago, Odin told Loki his birthright was to die. If only he knew.
When the Laufeyson was born small, too small and frail to survive, the solution seemed obvious. Though it had been many a generation since it had been done, the child was brought forth to the Casket, to be bound to its' power in an ancient ceremony that would imbue the little one with all the strength of a typical Jotun. That ceremony was interrupted by battle, and the child was left with the unguarded casket, in the hopes that the casket could keep it alive until it was safe to finish the ceremony.
That ceremony was never finished.
Over a thousand years later, the Casket of Ancient Winters is destroyed during Ragnarok. No one thought this would be an issue, least of all Loki. Guess what.

“What part of ‘no one needs to die’ is so hard for you to understand?!” Harrow’s voice grew annoyed and he lost his control over its volume for a moment. At the sudden outburst of emotion Runaan smirked internally – now the human was showing his true colours. As much as he wanted the Moonshadow elf to see him as this gentle person, actually concerned about the lives of those who would have without a doubt taken his, had they not been overpowered at the last second, Runaan wouldn’t let himself be fooled.
The assassination on King Harrow and Prince Ezran had failed and the Moonshadow elves were captured. The king spared their lives in hopes of developing some ground for diplomacy, but how will Harrow’s mercy and Runaan’s stubbornness actually affect the story moving forward?
