Ayato had always been told he had inherited his mother’s lovely smile. Being reminded of it as a child would always make him smile even wider, blissfully unaware as he was of what it truly meant.
Later, he would learn that inheriting his mother’s smile meant he could easily deceive whoever he pleased. That he could conceal pain, anger, frustration and despair all behind softly tilted lips and crinkled eyes; a carefully practiced but polite mask that he himself had never caught his mother wearing.
