Summary
Ten years ago, Bucky disappeared.
Now, Steve has built a life without him—teaching art, and trying not to wonder what became of the boy who once meant everything to him.
Then one night, in the middle of the city, he sees him.
But the man Steve finds isn’t the boy he knew. Bucky is volatile, paranoid, and hiding something behind a smile that never quite reaches his eyes. He chain-smokes, talks to things that aren’t there, and sometimes forgets where he is.
What starts as a chance encounter becomes something far more complicated as Steve begins to piece together the past Bucky’s too scared to tell—and the present he’s trying to survive.
Or, the story of how Bucky lost his arm and fell in love with his childhood best friend.

Summary
Bucky is dead. To everyone else, Steve lost a friend, a soldier. For him, he lost a lover, his rock and crutch. They’d been together for so long that the hole Bucky leaves behind in Steve’s chest is like the remnants of a cannonball shot. Chased by grief, Steve drops the Valkyrie into the ice and thinks that this is it. He'll finally be able to be with Bucky again.
Steve wakes up in a new time, with new enemies and new friends, but the mission is the same. Bring down the enemy, no matter what. When a mysterious figure known as San Dapth makes his way onto the scene, Steve and the Avengers step forward and heed the call to arms. Together, they have to face down San Dapth and bring him to justice.
It's in their fight against San Dapth that Steve discovers something terrifying. He's pregnant with Bucky Barnes' baby. Now he must learn to live this new life without the man he loves.
Hydra learns of Steve's pregnancy. And they'll do whatever it takes to get to his unborn child, including unleashing their greatest asset from the ice—the Winter Soldier.
When Steve discovers the Winter Soldier and Bucky Barnes are one and the same, he must fight to bring back the man he loves.

ch1/51
"He should celebrate not being dead. That feels like something he should do. But he is too tired for that. His body is heavy. His body is very, very heavy. It’s heavy like it has rocks all over it.
Rocks all over his body. It’s weird. He is pretty confident he is inside a hospital. He knows what hospital rooms look like. Do they allow rocks inside hospital rooms? It just doesn’t seem safe. Why isn’t Sam trying to remove the rocks over Steve? If the rocks keep piling up, they’re going to crush Steve eventually. What if the gravel and sand get inside his mouth and choke him?"
