It would be easy because sex is easy. Distraction is easy. Avoidance is easy.
But trust. Trust is a complication.
For Ace Week 2021, an Olive Branch coda where David is asexual.

Summary
David remembers thirteen. Thirteen turned him into a different person, too, and he’s not just talking about the nose job. Thirteen made him hyper-aware of everyone staring at him and everyone he thought was staring at him and everyone who could potentially one day be staring at him. So he gave them all a reason to stare. Thirteen was the year fashion became his armor. He looks over at the contour palettes, glitter, and false eyelashes spread out on the table next to them. Maybe Jayson’s looking for his own armor.

Of course she’s still in love with him. That part’s not a mystery.
She got over it, she’d had to get over it, but no one falls in love with David Rose and falls back out again. Stevie’s pretty sure there’s only one other person who’s ever done it, and she knows he would agree.

Summary
David’s not at a Smithsonian. Patrick knows exactly where he is—the White House Mess—because that’s where Patrick sent him while he finished up “this one last statement for my boyfriend.” David told him he didn’t have to, that he has other people for that, but Patrick insisted. He said winning the HRC Visibility Award is a big deal and deserves a big deal announcement, which it is and does, but there was also another reason. A reason that hinged on actually reading the fucking quote, David.
(David accidentally sends an unproofed statement to print in swat117’s sappy political AU)

Summary
“Well I’m going to run some errands,” David says, brushing a stray bit of fuzz off his navy blue sweater. “But we’re still on for birthday dinner?”
“Yeah,” Patrick nods. He’s pretty sure David knows the annual birthday surprise party stopped being a surprise after year two or three. David doesn’t even inflict fictional catastrophes on the café as a decoy anymore. But Patrick plays along anyway. In some ways their whole partnership is built on playing along.
OR David and Patrick have been business partners for a decade until, on Patrick's 40th Birthday, everything changes.

Summary
Viktor knows the shape of this program backwards and forwards, can breathe along with the ebb and flow of it. He dreams about it. He’s been dreaming about it for months. Years, maybe, in one way or another. But now there’s something different. That glint of gold.
Some Viktor introspection during Yuuri’s final free skate.

Summary
Every great speech starts with a good conversation. They sat first in the lobby or on the bus, Patrick listening and watching. He learned quickly to pair his questions with a joke or a tease or a muffin. Whatever it took to surprise the honesty out of David. It wasn’t easy, but Patrick loves a challenge. This has always been his favorite part of getting into someone’s head, seeing the issues through their eyes.

Summary
They’ve seen each other mostly in stolen moments not for the clandestine thrill, but because when your life revolves around the President-elect of the United States, any private moment has to be stolen. They’ve had enough time together to do the thing or talk about the thing, not both. They’ve had to choose. And it turns out they really, really enjoy doing the thing.

It’s an attractive thought, that changing your life could be as easy as doing a hard thing.

Summary
If David had asked out of jealousy or insecurity or even just a misplaced desire to mend the big closeted hole in Patrick’s past, he would be more than happy to ignore it, let it drop, as requested. But that’s not why David asked. He asked because he’s curious. Because Patrick has an experience with sex that David Rose, his gloriously queer boyfriend who’s had every kind of sex there is, doesn’t understand but wants to.
And that’s. Well. That’s not something he’ll forget. That’s an opportunity.
That’s a question he’s going to answer.
