The two successive messages give him extreme worry.
Essek Thelyss certainly wasn't expecting to have to enter Caleb's dreams today, but faced with a life or death situation, he has no choice but to do it. To save Caleb, he will do anything. Even if it means having to deal with his own problems that he has been steadily ignoring for a long time.

Essek Thelyss made sure to isolate himself in his far-off castle after the war between the Dynasty and the Empire, intending to stay out of sight, out of mind from the few survivors. He has lived there alone for over a century, until one stormy night, when a hungry and quite dangerous creature breaks in. What begins as a fight for life and death between the two, soon develops into a tentative stalemate, and Essek finds himself wondering if this peculiar intruder possibly might be his last hope for connection.
This story is canon divergent in the way that Bren didn't break and the Mighty Nein never met.
The chapters are named and themed after the whumptober 2022 prompts.
