Summary
Okay, so if Jax ignored the crippling heartbreak at the thought that his husband would never know what happened to him, then there were really only three things working against him:
1- he was starving to death, but dehydration would get him first.
2- there was something weird about the ocean hell world he'd somehow found himself in that was causing his biotech to eat itself. His translator was bearing the worst of it, which prevented him from communicating with the fish-boy being kept prisoner beside him. His eye was faring better. All it did was occasionally lose all ability to see color for random periods of time. He was getting used to it.
3- he had absolutely no idea where he was, why exactly he'd ended up there, or how he would even go about attempting an escape from the crocodile pirates that had captured him.
So all in all, just a few minor setbacks. Nothing Jax couldn’t handle. . .

There's certainly nothing more at play, no magics hidden under the enticement to ensnare his mind and twist his form into something more... manageable.
