Mickey hasn't always made the best decisions in life, but after the incident with Terry, he knows he has to make a hard one, and soon. He’s an adult now, and he can’t keep letting his dad be his own personal boogeyman, putting a rift between him and the man (and family) he loves.
When the decision is suddenly taken out of his hands, Mickey has to deal with a whole new slew of problems, including his feelings about a father whose shadow he’s yet to get out from under.

A good day, a good week, even several good months don’t mean shit when there is one single, tiny, random thing that catches you off guard and throws you for a loop. Doesn’t matter how good you did or how far you have come. It sneaks up on you and fucks you over.
“Don’t want ya to do this shit on your own, Ian.” Mickey says sincerely. And Ian exhales a shaky breath, gives him a small smile and scoots closer. He takes Mickey’s left hand and brings it to his chapped lips and kisses each digit slowly, caressing the rough skin with his mouth, loving the feel of cool metal when he reaches Mickey’s ring finger.

Summary
When Ian first brought up this ridiculous idea, Mickey honestly thought it was a joke.
They found a flyer slipped under their door when they got home from work, bright blue with a picture of a cartoon sun at the top. An invite for a building-wide event, some social mixer down by the pool.
“It’ll be fun,” Ian said, and Mickey snorted as he tossed the flyer in with the rest of the junk mail.
He thought Ian was being sarcastic. He thought it was a joke.
Now, as he stands in their bedroom, ripping off the price tag on a brand-new pair of swim trunks Ian brought home for him yesterday, Mickey is resigned to meet his fate.

Mickey has everything he always wanted now; a house, a good job, freedom, and Ian. But everything he's gone through in the past has finally caught up with him and has changed him into an introverted, anxious, scared, weak man. He never sleeps out of fear that the police will find him and catch him off guard. He receives a letter from Svetlana and Yevgeny, asking him for help. Things are piling up and Ian is typically his escape, but these problems might be a little too much for one person to fix.
