Two years ago, when Ichigo was sixteen, Aizen got his Ouken by executing his original plan; killing thousands in the process and winning the Winter War. He disappeared after his success, leaving everyone in Soul Society flabbergasted. What had been the point? Had they been wrong from the beginning?
Meanwhile, he snuck into the Soul King Dimension in secret and saw the state of the Reio. He realized he was going to end up like him despite his evolutions. Unwilling to take that risk, he remembered his experiment from way back when and tracked down Ichigo, who had the perfect genes to be a lynchpin...

Reconstruction is well under way after the massive destruction caused by the Quincy invasion. Byakuya Kuchiki is secretly hopeful for the future and all the changes he can foresee happening with a new King on the throne.
However, there are still huge day-to-day repercussions from the events of the war. Everyone was affected; even those who weren't known to be able to feel anything. His fellow captain of the 11th division is even more of a disgrace to his rank, drinking all day long or staring absently at everyone with no drive or care in the world. No one has dared confront the madman, especially with his newfound Shikai... Well, he is a Kuchiki and it is his duty. Kenpachi seems so out of it, he doubts he could be a threat to him. An easy conclusion to make, Shinji decides, as the record is the only object amidst the chaos and the disarray that seems to have been placed deliberately. Dissecting Aizen’s words, moves, facial expressions was like second nature to Shinji at this point - he spent over a century doing that to Aizen Sōsuke of his memories, trying to prove to himself that the man is neither magical nor telepathic, just very smart and very observant.
“No,” Shinji responds. Whatever was truly important to him, he always tried to keep out of Aizen’s reach, didn’t want it to be tainted by him. Didn’t work out so well for the people he cared about, but maybe he managed to still save some things. Chopin’s waltz in C-sharp minor, for one.
