From the prompt: Javert recognises Madeline as Valjean from the moment they meet, but they both know that any accusation would come down to his word against that of a respected businessman. So Javert goes about his duties and waits for Valjean to slip up, while Valjean goes about his life and waits for Javert to denounce him.

Summary
Instead of committing suicide, Javert goes on a three-day bender. When Valjean finds him, Javert assumes he's a hallucination. Things proceed awkwardly from there.

“Where are you going?” the hallucination asked, which was foolish. Surely his brain knew what Javert planned.
“To the nearest--” Javert paused, looked at the recently vacated wine-ship, and amended what he had been about to say. “To the next wine-shop. Obviously I am not drunk enough if you are here.”
The apparition got to its feet with a wince, as though his mind had ridiculously conjured aches and pains with which to torment Valjean’s specter. “Javert, your words make no sense,” it said, and Javert laughed again.
“I am making perfect sense.” He touched his pocket where he kept his money, frowned. “I hope you are only a drink or two from going away. I do not know how much more beer I can afford.”

Not one yo suffer fools lightly or overstay his welcome, Javert leaves. But, how will the early winter, cholera epidemic, a case of the flu, and an injury help bring this family together?

La Bête Noire: an idiomatic phrase meaning "pet peeve." Lit. "the black beast."
Paris, 1832. Valjean has been exposed by Thénardier to Javert, who is more than eager to finally arrest the man once and for all. There is, however, a problem; Valjean has been "dead" to the French government for almost 10 years. Javert finds himself struggling to provide evidence for a final conviction. Eventual Javert/Valjean.

Summary
Prompt: I'd like to see something where Valjean and Javert (especially Valjean) actually feel they have to hide their relationship from Cosette and Marius for obvious reasons and go to extreme measures to do so. I can see this going in many different directions, so tone is up to you!
What actually happened in my head: Valjean starts out hating the idea of keeping his relationship with the Inspector a secret, but warms to it quickly. Maybe too much. Now he's going to unbelievable lengths to hide his tryst with a grumbling Javert. He hides it for obvious reasons (Marius' distrust, homophobia, Cosette's fear/hatred/everything etc.) but I've added a few more because I wanted to.
