Standing there before Chris, it was undeniable how different he looked. Crows feet at the corners of his eyes and wrinkles creasing his face. Countless, deeply gouged scars healed over and faded with time. Hair sprinkled with so much salt and pepper it almost looked gray.
Chris ached at the sight of him. Ached at the ever-present cane propped up against his leg and the glasses perched on his nose. Because it meant that he was old. That they both were.
Which was something Chris never thought he and Leon would be together.

Leon gasped, the sudden impact causing an involuntary, desperate whimper to slip past his lips—a sound that could easily give away his biological status.
“Look, this is a peak performance for me right now,” Leon growled out, his voice catching in his throat as he continued to keep Chris covered. “I'm working with questionable optimism. Save the critiques, keep your head high, and shoot!”
Chris remained focused on the target, unaware of the internal battle Leon was fighting. With the weapon leveled and firing, Chris's firm grip stayed clamped on Leon's shoulder, keeping him anchored safely underneath him.
A confusing, aggressive heat started pooling in Chris's veins—his own alpha blood demanding he secure and comfort his teammate. Unaware that his teammate was an omega, the suppressants had worn off and their heat had begun, Chris tightened his grip on his rifle and Leon's shoulder, his knuckles turning white.

Summary
A desk job, and permanent limp, was not the future Chris envisioned for himself. The only positive to the situation was the fact that it at least made it possible to pursue a more serious relationship with Leon.
However, it only took a few months of living together, to realize there was something very wrong with Leon's work. Sometimes it felt like the agent barely remembered he was allowed to be a person.
Chris was determined to get to the bottom of it, at least in between re-introducing Leon to the joys of downtime, hobbies, and plans for the future.
