His hands brushed over what seemed like soft sheets on a mattress and then immediately came to a brusque halt when they touched something unmistakable.
Skin. The bare skin of someone's hand just mere inches away from him. His eyes flew open and the sight they were met with shocked him frozen.
On a nice bed, covered in sheets finer than anything he ever owned in his mortal life, resting on a pillow so close he could feel the warmth seeping from his body, was Xie Lian. Asleep, relaxed, a soft smile adorning his slightly parted lips, Xie Lian was sleeping with a peaceful expression, something that Wuming hadn't seen on him for many long years.
or: Hua Cheng and Xie Lian both fall victim to the memory monster. A barely out of Yong'an Wuming wakes up next to pre-third ascension Xie Lian and doesn't exactly know how to deal with that.

Aventurine makes it out of the abyss - and into a different world. Things are different here - simpler. There are no Aeons, no intergalactic factions and corporations, no Paths and Blessings. He is not naïve enough to assume that there is no cruelty and discrimination here - for there always is - but for the most part, everything is peaceful.
Here, Aventurine's priorities are getting people's coffee orders right. Fairly straight forward, if you ask him.
Except for the bit where he is surrounded by too many familiar faces, and they remind him of a place he can no longer return to. That's okay. People come and go, and so will they.
Except for the bit where they come and go and come back.
AKA. Aventurine gets dropped into a coffee-shop AU with all the memories from before. He's handling things until he's not handling things. That's okay, because he still has friends (and Dr Ratio) in this world. He just doesn't know it yet.

Kaveh must have fallen asleep at his desk again, the morning light hitting his eyes like a slap. He blinked at the soft green blanket over his shoulders. When he stumbled into the hall, Alhaitham was sitting in the living quarters with his back to him, soundproof earpieces alit.
He had a stupid moment where he wanted to call out to Alhaitham. What would he even say? ‘I’m having some trouble.’ ‘Is the blanket yours?’ ‘You were right, I’m in over my head.’ ‘Can you hear me out?’ ‘Help me. Please, help me.’
Stupid. He yawned and went to stumble his way to the kitchen. From his periphery, he thought he saw Alhaitham turn towards him with a look like he wanted to say something. But that, too, surely was just a very nice dream.

After the first day of the Interdarshan Championship, Kaveh asks Alhaitham to praise him during sex—because although the two of them disdain each other, they somehow keep ending up in bed together.
“Strong,” Alhaitham murmurs, kissing from Kaveh’s thigh to his hip. “Resolute.”
Stop, Kaveh wants to say. You’re wrong, you’re lying, you’re cruel.
But he asked for this. He asked Alhaitham to take him to bed and praise him, to make him feel like he’s not a complete failure.
Alhaitham knows that Kaveh is none of the words leaving his mouth. Kaveh is neither strong nor resolute, and he is certainly not enough.
But Alhaitham is a linguist. And that means he’s good with words, Kaveh supposes—even when he doesn’t mean them.
