Strictly speaking, Joe doesn’t date omegas.
His parents have been drilling that notion into his skull since he’s presented at the age of fifteen: an omega is serious business. The risk of heat-bonding is always too high, and no one wants to deal with an alpha acting like an idiot because they can’t get over their stupid, primal urges. They don’t live in the Dark Ages anymore. There are suppressants and shit.
So, no, Joe doesn’t date omegas. But he definitely doesn’t pass an opportunity to fuck one.
It’s March 2020, and Joe is a young alpha on the last week of his backpacking trip through Italy.
Before heading home, he makes one last stop in the city of Genoa, where he meets a beautiful omega named Nicky at an underground party. They hit it off right away, and Nicky takes Joe back to his place. The sex is mind-blowing, but it’s supposed to just be a one-night stand.
That’s until they wake up to the news of the Lockdown.

Of course, Hana had finally settled down in her carrier, and she continued to sleep despite the crash of a half dozen cans of baby formula hitting the carpet, so Joe merely blinked back unshed tears and took a deep breath, finding his key and unlocking his flat. He left the door ajar as he carefully put Hana’s carrier on the sofa and quickly went back to retrieve the scattered cans.

In 1308, the second time Joe had succumbed, he’d shivered in a cot and curled in on himself in pain and apologized to Nicky in a voice thinner than the threadbare sheets he’d been bundled in. Helpless and exhausted, Nicky had flown into a rare rage, incandescently angry at the universe and God and whatever else for saddling Joe with this cyclic fate, angry at himself for not being able to do more, angry at Joe for daring to apologize for what he could not control. They’d cried for and at each other until Joe couldn’t anymore and Nicky didn’t dare to break the peaceful silence that stole over him close to dawn.
Over time, they’ve learned.
Joe's immortality comes with a difficult caveat. They cope.

He stopped; he was not sure how to make himself any clearer, and the Saracen was not evidently interested in conveying anything other than his loathing. Nicolò waited, and after a long, uncomfortable moment, the Saracen finally responded. He spat an incomprehensible sentence in Arabic, heavy with disdain, and thrust his bound hands forward. A demand to be released? That would make sense. Nicolò hesitated.
“Do you understand me?” he pressed, repeating his gestures. “We are the same. We go together? Away from here? Both of us?”
The Saracen repeated also; his Arabic phrase, and the twisting of his wrists against their bindings. Nicolò nodded, and crouched before him.“I am going to free you,” he said. “Please help me.”

Nile watches as Joe gets to his feet and heads towards Nicky, calling out something to him in Italian. Nile is torn between learning Italian, so that she can know what they’re saying, and feeling like it’s an intrusion on something that she’s not meant to hear. "He's very protective of Nicky, isn't he?"
"You're only noticing that now?" Andy asks wryly.
“It all seems a little bit one-sided, that’s all,” Nile muses. “I've never seen Nicky be as...violently protective over Joe.” Andy just hums, and Nile glances over at her. “You think I’m wrong? I know I haven’t been around long, but I’ve seen Joe get killed in a bunch of messy ways and Nicky has never done…that.”
Andy just hums again. “Look again,” she says when Nile throws her hands up in frustration. “Watch more closely. You’ll know when you see it.”
