Sonny doesn’t know why he doesn’t just tell her. Why he doesn’t just say: 'Hey, I was crushed under a dumpster, my ribs feel like they’re on fire and I can’t breathe properly'. Well, that’s not quite true - he does know. He knows that he’s still the new guy, still unproven. Knows that even if he did tell her, Rollins probably wouldn’t care that much, the same way no one really cared that much when Declan Murphy pistol whipped him, broke his nose and then they left him sitting in holding for three hours. The same way, by the end of his time on the other SVU squads, no one cared enough to have his back on cases. He’s not Amaro, he’s not going to get a welcome back party if he’s ever shot.
Sonny gets hurt while apprehending a suspect and doesn't tell anyone, because he thinks they won't care - he's wrong of course.

“Dr Geiszler, you’re not an epidemiologist either!” Hermann had snapped back, face all pink, and he slammed his sandwich onto his tray.
“Pip pip Mako,” Newt continued, ignoring everything Hermann had said and cutting him off, “Time to make the world’s worst cup of tea and maths my way into an incorrect conclusion!!”
That conversation had quickly turned into a full argument, delightfully petty and unstoppable even by Mako’s intervention, ending only with their expulsion from the mess by some severely underpaid food service workers. They did not speak at all for three days until Newt had discovered a packet of coveted sour gummy worms near his newest sample cases, and Hermann had found linzer cookies on one of his many CRTs.
So, safe to say, Newt’s a bit of an acknowledged expert about Hanahaki.
Newt's got a handle on all the various things going on his life. Being THE Kaiju expert? Check. Being one of two K-Scientists left? Check. The intense pressure to save the world? Check. Interpersonal relationships? Check. So it really doesn't make any sense that he's contracted the stupid flower disease, because it just doesn't fit with the facts of his life at all. No, seriously.

It's Tuesday night. They should be watching Predator or Die Hard, sitting on their couch at opposite ends while Dennis pretends Mac's not staring at him out of the corners of his eyes, but they're not. Instead, Dennis is in the hospital chair next to Mac's bed, pretending to be his husband for reasons that he doesn't want to think about right now. He just wants Mac to wake up. Well, if he decides to wake up, that is. If Mac decides him and the gang are worth coming back to at all.
Dennis just wishes that things could go back to normal. Before Mac decided he loved Dennis and decided to shove it down his throat, before things got stiff and awkward and stuck between them. Then Mac wouldn't be in this goddamn hospital bed and none of this ever would have happened in the first place.
If only Dennis remembered to be careful what you wish for.
Set after season 14. No major character deaths.
