Summary
After serving in Starfleet for the past seven years, Lieutenant Margaret (Margot) Lee Larke is no stranger to first days. But when a delayed shuttle, missed orientation tour and huge, unfamiliar ship keep her from getting to her medical eval appointment on time, she’s met by a less than impressed Dr. McCoy, who might just be handsome if he wasn’t so busy scowling at her.
And when she’s called in for a one-on-one meeting with the Captain, Margot isn’t sure what to expect. It’s been over ten years since she last saw her cousin, and things were left on pretty bad terms (to say the least). But she’s certainly not expecting to learn that the prickly doctor with the striking blue eyes from earlier also happens to be Jim’s best friend.
Margot is keen to keep her familial ties in the dark for now, but hiding that secret becomes more of a challenge than she expects, especially on a crew as sharp eyed as the Enterprise. Will she manage to repair her relationships and find her footing? And will she choose to do anything about her begrudging attraction to McCoy, as she begins to see beyond his gruff exterior?

Summary
This is how it goes: they get on each other’s nerves, McCoy takes Spock for a spin in his quarters, and they return to business as usual on the Enterprise. McCoy keeps the med bay functioning, and Spock does—whatever it is that First Officers do. They don’t talk about work (or much of anything) much, once McCoy gets his hands on Spock behind closed doors.
The most important thing that McCoy tells himself, though, is that Spock isn’t his. He’s never been his—he’s Jim’s, at the end of the day. They’re the happy ending everyone’s rooting for. He’s just a bit selfish, reaping the benefits of their occasional break ups.
But that’s not really it, is it?

When Jim and Bones are thrown together on the shuttle, there's something at first sight. It takes longer for them to get past each other's defenses.
Jim couldn’t help but grind his hips against Bones at that, couldn’t hold back the sharp intake of breath that betrayed just how badly he wanted this. Still, it was Bones who’d had the long shift, Bones who was too tired to eat when he’d gotten home that night. “You’re the one who needs taking care of, though,” Jim protested feebly.
“Here’s a little secret about me,” Bones said, kissing his way down Jim’s neck. “My favorite way to relax? Taking care of someone else. Preferably,” he said, sucking at a bit of skin that Jim knew would just barely be covered by his cadet uniform, “someone who makes noises as pretty as that.”
Jim stopped trying to swallow the whine that was escaping him, letting Bones hear the effect he was having.

The Enterprise has been sent to negotiate reaccession to the Federation with an isolationist religious group known as the Kindred. While there, Jim notices that some of the children seem to be gravely ill. The problem is, the Kindred practice faith healing and refuse to allow a doctor to be brought in. So Jim does what he does best: he improvises.

Jim and his roommate Hikaru's new neighbor across the street is an enigma. Neither man has ever seen or heard from the person, until one day a package shows up on their doorstep addressed to Jim, with a note scrawled on a Post-It note stuck to the top. This begins a long-running ritual in which Jim and the mysterious neighbor, who he nicknamed Bones, pass each other small gifts and notes across the street several times a week, all without ever speaking in person. Jim feels like they have a connection, and when they finally meet in person they realize that what started with exchanged sticky notes can actually just be the beginning of something really meaningful.

As it turns out, Bike Messenger Asshole is pretty young, a little scrawny, and looks as tired as Leonard feels, but with bright blue eyes and a halo of blond hair on his helmetless head, catching the morning sun.
Leonard is a (mostly) well-behaved cyclist who commutes to his job at San Francisco General Hospital. Jim’s a hotshot bike messenger. Modern-ish AU.
