“Hey Jax..” Pomni starts to call out quietly but upon seeing the back of his shoulders tense further she pauses.
Are you okay? She wants to ask.
But her gut tells her that that might not be the best approach with Jax yet. The memory of him hunched over the buttons console in despair, raw and full of hurt comes unbidden.
“...What is this place?” She asks instead, relieved to see that his shoulders slightly sagged down as if in relief.
Jax cracked one eye open and glanced lazily toward the far wall.
“No idea,” he said. “Just another one of those rooms.”

After tireless tuning, Jax has perfected his sneering mask. The cost? Endless thinking, day in and day out, determining how to perform, when to push someone's buttons, and who to throw in front of moving trucks. The calculation is near-constant, but his fortress? Impenetrable.
Until Pomni quite literally (and accidentally) brings him to his knees.
After experimenting with her silly cartoon body, Pomni discovers she can do something pretty neat with her eyes that can stop Jax in his tracks, and he cannot stop thinking about how to make her do it again. What follows are shenanigans, a ridiculous situationship, and about a thousand excuses for why Jax definitely needs Pomni to do the spinny thing with her eyes one more time.

This is a multi-chapter romantic comedy revision of my one-shot "The Soft Parts," which takes place after where Pomni discovers she has a secret hypnosis power and Jax discovers he really likes being controlled.

It’s pointless to dwell on what happened— Jax pushing away, hurtful words exchanged, the fight; he’s a white puzzle and she’s stuck between giving up or completing the whole thing without any help, while the pieces would run and hide from her right before she was about to finish a section.
It’s a good thing she always liked challenges.
And for better or worse, he’s stuck here as much as she is— stuck with her. If he wants to be an a[*€$@#]e, then let him be. Let him push her away again and again. It’ll take much more than that to break her resolve.

“Jax? Did he..? Did he threaten you?” Ragatha felt her heart drop, despite her talk with kinger she still couldn't help but blame herself for leaving Pomni with Jax, her hand wrapped the wooden arm of her rocking chair.
