Perhaps Ilya, in bed with Shane at his cottage months later, finally shares this detail with him. Which perhaps encourages other unspoken details to be shared, and some fantasizing about who else they would like to tell. On purpose.
Perhaps the late night fantasizing snowballs into an actual plan. A labour day weekend party where they surprise everyone that matters to them (Marlow is also invited). For better and for worse.

Summary
Ilya has talked to a lot of people during his time at the shelter. They come here, they fall in love with animals, and feel sympathy for their situation. It is so easy to see the emotions in their expression, in how their brows furrowing or smiles dance around their mouths. He usually focuses on the animals he works with, not the people coming here, but he cannot stop himself from following Anya as she makes her way towards the guy currently watching the guinea pigs.
He is less expressive, as if he is holding back feelings towards the creatures around him, but Ilya is convinced that there is deep emotion in the depths of his eyes, as he looks at Anya. He sees the way his dark eyes sparkle like cool pools of water in the moonlight and Ilya needs to pull himself from their depths to answer his question without looking like a fool.

Off to the more quiet side of the scene—or as quiet as it could get—there's Batman and Superman. Batman's gaze is fixed solely on the holographic display projecting from his gauntlet and the contents of it's information. Presumably explaining said contents to Superman. Superman, who is looking at said contents from beside Batman, occasionally nodding in response to whatever he's saying. They're too far from whomever is taking this video for them to be heard, but one could get a good go at reading their lips.
The most obvious thing said is by Superman, “Sorry, I didn't catch that," his lips betray, as he steps closer than he already is. Lowering his head and drawing his ear closer to Batman's mouth.
