Summary
Steve buys a little rundown farmhouse after his parents pass. He collects abandoned and stray animals, ones with disabilities and high medical needs, because he has both the funds and the time to give them the best life they can possibly have. Then, somehow, he starts collecting kids, too, working with the foster system to give them a place to learn and grow. Adults, however, aren't really his forte, but when Jim Hopper calls in a favour, Steve can't help but agree.
It turns out that Eddie Munson, a rockstar famous for both his music and hedonistic lifestyle, is going to be Steve's next rescue.

“You’re lucky, Zoro,” she had spat, eyes turned up towards the sky, like she was trying to hold in tears. He'd never seen Kuina cry before. He’d never seen any expression on her face other than her teeth gritted in determination or her grinning in victory. “I want to be the greatest swordsman too. But girls grow up, and their bodies become weaker than men's. I’m never going to be the greatest.”
Kuina tells him this, and Zoro can barely comprehend the words she’s saying. He thinks of the countless hours he’s spent training by the river bed, the green locks of his hair left on the floor after Koushirou helped him shear it all off, of the people he thought of as family a lifetime ago calling him by a name he despised. Zoro puts a hand to his chest, where he’d hastily wrapped bandages earlier that day, remembering how his body had begun changing and he didn’t understand why-
“You’re lucky to have been born a man, Zoro,” Kuina finishes lamely.

Or the one where Steve has depression, Eddie becomes his safe space, and when Eddie encounters battles he can't fight, Steve reminds Eddie of his own strength.

Steve pushes his hair back, and yet again, gravity instantly pulls it back down, since he’s looking at his feet. “…I don’t need anyone to worry about me.”

“Why?” Steve replies with a raspy laugh, shaking his head slowly.
“Why? Why.” Eddie crosses his arms tightly across his chest, knocking his foot into Steve’s again with a bit more strength. “Because we’re friends, dipshit.”

“What did you find in my closet,” Steve interrupts, a fond raise of his brow and tilt of his smile. “Come on, you’ve been squirrelly ever since and I know you’re just itching to give me shit for it.”
Robin stops, eyes serious now. “Steve, I’d never give you shit for this. That would just be downright hypocritical. I mean you of all people know how sacred my friendship with Dorothy is so why would I –”
She stops again, probably at the face Steve is making, the one that shows how he can feel his heart in his stomach, but probably also at the inkling that they’re not exactly on the same page.

Eddie was always a weird kid. Most people in his grade hated him, they would call him a weirdo and mock him relentlessly, and Eddie hated them. However despite relentless mocking and bullying, Eddie never seemed to hate one person in his grade. Steve “the hair” Harrington. Steve had taken part in the bullying but Eddie could never hold it against him, whenever he saw Steve it was like the world went pink for him and anything Steve said would simply fly over his head like a bat in the sky. So when Eddie found out his high school crush had been hired in the newly opened Scoops Ahoy, Eddie couldn’t resist spending his time watching in the jock from a distance. However, after a while Eddie began to find that he wasn’t happy with just watching Steve anymore. He wanted to have him all to himself.

Okay, so not only is Steve Harrington apparently not a douche, but he’s also kind of a mess?
Now that Eddie is properly looking, he notices the slight bags under Steve’s eyes and how his face is drawn, as if he hasn’t been getting enough sleep. That doesn’t make sense– Eddie would think that Steve is living a cushy life, with his mansion and parents that probably pamper him like a goddamned baby. This Steve doesn’t look pampered at all; instead, Eddie can see a familiar haunted look in his eyes that screams he’s just like you.

If you looked up the definition of "fucked-up" in the dictionary, Steve Harrington's face would be plastered right next to it. After living through two Upside-Down debacles now, it makes sense. Eddie Munson doesn't know about that, but he does notice how similar he and the former King of Hawkins High really are.
