For some reason, this ugly and imbalanced part of you has made his day better. You feel as though something is being given to you, even though you were the one who volunteered personal information. You feel as though you should hold it in your hands and learn to feel it without shying away. You feel the telltale shiver of a moment, as they say. You feel the undercurrent of a choice.

Summary
Navigating their lives after Martinaise proves complicated for Harry and Kim as they attempt to balance work and personal life, but things get even more complicated when they have to confront a series of cases that bring more questions than answers, like 'is it normal to care about your partner this much?' and 'so what if I love you, what does that matter?' and 'can all of these cases really be connected?'
A slow(fast?) burn casefic with low stakes(except for minor peril) and minimal angst(except for one chapter). If I hadn't gotten burned out it probably would have been about 14 chapters? the last 5 plus epilogue are summarized in chapter 9 so keep that in mind.

What *should* have been a temporary partnership - not only launches Kim down his desired career path - but entangles both men in a Moralintern conspiracy that drives rot deep into the heart of Revachol.
Winter 52' - More children are pulled from the Esperance.
Chapters alternate between Harry in the 'present' day and Kim in the past, this is an Eyes fic so obvious warning for major character death.

Here, two strangers from the RCM find themselves: Disgraced Lt. 2/Y Harry Du Bois, suspended from duty after a disastrous investigation ended in massive bloodshed, and decorated Lt. Kim Kitsuragi, placed on leave after an event he refuses to discuss. But when a dead body turns up on the beach with an unidentifiable injury, and suspicion falls on Harry, the vacation comes to an unceremonious end.

In the beginning you dream about a shard of light, illuminating the path ahead of you. It wavers; sometimes it’s unbearably bright and warm, other times it struggles. It takes you longer than you would like to admit to realise that it always relates to him. When he has a good day, your dreams are steeped in gold. When he flirts along the edges of relapse, the light isn’t quite there, like a faltering lightbulb on the brink of burning out. He stumbles in the waking hours and you stumble in the dark.
Little by little he is becoming something in your rote routine, breaking it apart in a way you aren’t quite prepared for. You’re frustrated by it, by how quickly he had such a hold on you. You’ve never needed another soul in your life.
You’re beginning to need him.
