“I’m not a flower girl!” Christopher continues, annoyed. “I have no flowers.”
“Maybe we should wake him?” Buck suggests. “He seems, um. Distressed.”

Summary
Buck brings Eddie joy, he guesses. His best friend, who’s been there for everything that’s happened in the past few years: every girlfriend and every consequent breakup, every single one of Christopher’s milestones, countless nights huddled on the couch sharing pizza and a beer. If Eddie’s being honest, Buck is the only thing keeping him sane while Christopher’s away. He’s a perfect distraction from the shitshow that is Eddie’s life, and Eddie doesn’t even feel bad for that.
But what about himself? When was the last time he actually felt like he was being honest with himself, instead of doing the things other people wanted him to do and being the things other people wanted him to be? When’s the last time Eddie’s felt okay in his own company?

Summary
It hits Eddie as he’s kneeling in his childhood bedroom in El Paso, Texas, his kid back in his arms after a loud and uncomfortable argument about his decision to move.
It’s a realization he should have had months ago – Chris doesn’t need him to cede further ground to his parents, to give himself up in hopes of gaining a little of his son in return. He needs Eddie to choose himself, as well. To fight for what he wants. And Eddie wants… a lot of stuff, actually. First and foremost, to get back to LA and reunite with the last person missing in their family of three.
It hits Buck as he’s standing in the middle of Sunset Boulevard, calling for the crowd of onlookers to disperse.
Not the realization, of course – he had that one two weeks back, sitting on the only couch that has ever felt right, as he helped the love of his life slip out of his reach – but the silver Honda Civic Type R that just barreled through the roadblock fifty feet further down the street.

"Oh! Yeah, it's one of my favorite books." Eddie smiles, shy and charming. "I've read the series like, a thousand times."
"Really? Huh?" Buck feels his heart thump erratically inside of him.
Holy shit, holy shit. Eddie Diaz read his books.
Honestly, how is Buck supposed to act normal after such revelation?
"I'm actually flying to an audition right now. Hopefully to be part of the movie for the book." Eddie says and then frowns. "Oh shit, I don't know if I should've told you that."
"It's okay." He leans forward and grins, squinting one of his eyes and shrugging. "Your secret's safe with me.'or; Buck's a best seller author under a pen name, Eddie is an actor auditioning for the movie adaptation of his books, and somewhere along the way, they fall in love.
