Reese grabbed onto his ankle and began to pull Malcolm out from under the table kicking and clinging onto different chairs in desperation to make his escape. “Mom’s home you idiot! You’re going to get us both in trouble if you-”
Reese gave a solid punch to his stomach, which was enough of a shock for Malcolm to drop his hold on the chair and curl his arms around himself instead. Reese had him out from under the table in seconds, sitting on his legs and grinning down at him.
“Just cause she’s home doesn’t mean I can’t still get you back dumbass,” Reese said, and Malcolm felt his stomach in all its bruised glory drop.

Jonathan Kent was happy. He was 14 and living his best life; patrolling and hanging out with Damian, having fun with his brothers, and being able to fly high into the clouds until he was covered in mist.
Jon loved life.
And then he died.
He never thought he could love anything ever again, what with being dead and all.
Turns out, the universe enjoys proving him wrong, because not long after he thinks this and takes his final breath, he wakes up again.
As a baby.
Boy, was his life weird.
Or, after dying in a fight against Lex Luthor, Jon is born again in another universe as Billy Batson’s twin brother. It only goes uphill from there.

This was a human boy. Pale as the first snow of winter with a head full of messy ashen hair and eyes so big that when Mito had first caught a glimpse of him, she felt as if she was stargazing.
Or perhaps, looking into a bottomless void, deeper than any ocean trenches.
Her dear Gon had brought back with him a poor sad child. One of calamity. He left large footprints on the earth he tread, but made no echoing sound or vibrations of footsteps behind.
It must have been a lonely existence.
Or
Mito helps Gon show Killua a glimpse of a normal existence.

It was electrocution. Thinking too much about that day made Billy's body ache. He could feel the spark of phantom pains that once lit his arm on fire. His mouth felt dry. “It doesn't anymore, though. Not really.”
For the first time, Billy tells someone how he got his powers. It wasn't as painless of a process as he'd have liked.
