Instead of dying, he wakes up four years earlier, and this time he manages to shield Mari from the fall, ending up in a coma for four years himself. When he wakes up, he finds a world where Mari has closed herself within her own HEADSPACE, plagued by the same kind of guilt and grief he'd become familiar with. The new timeline was more different than Sunny could've ever imagined, and he'd have to navigate the broken bonds between his friends all over again if he wanted to finally make a future where the group could be complete.

[A Darker Retelling of the Complete Tokyo Ghoul Series]
If Kaneki Ken was certain of anything, it was that his life was a tragedy.
He knew fate was cruel to people who were kind, ghouls were unforgiving, and that all the detriments in this world stemmed from a lack of his individual ability. Kaneki could count the number of people he trusted on one hand, and he knew he needed to protect every single one of them at all costs, even if it meant taking a more... Consequentialist approach.
That's about all he's sure of.
What Kaneki's not so sure of, however, is why he still sees the ghosts of souls who should be dead and gone, or why their memories have begun to slip through the cracks of his mind. With every kagune he consumes comes a foreign disposition he never asked for, eroding where his mercy ends and their brutality begins...
AU where Kaneki gains the memories and abilities of other ghouls, and things play out a little differently.

Jack accepts. Why would he pass that up just to go crazy in the Void? He wouldn't mind making another promise...and plus, Fredbear says he'll probably be able to reverse death, since this is a different universe we're talking about.
Turns out Fredbear isn't quite as experienced in terms of alternate universes, and he makes a minor mistake.
