Summary
While out at a club in New York to celebrate Pike and Jackie's joint bachelor/bachelorette party Shane runs into someone unexpected, Cliff Marleau. Feeling hurt and petty after having been ghosted by Ilya for the past six months Shane decides to hook up with Marleau.
Ilya is back in Russia and regrets having ghosted Shane. He thinks he will have time to fix things, to make things right, once he returns to Boston in the fall. What Ilya doesn't expect is to return only to find out Shane and Marleau are now in a relationship.

Set five years after the events of TVWLM, Kate, the suo jour Countess of Lincoln is attempting to manage her late Husband’s estate and her young son. So they somehow convince her to go back to London for a season, to “dip her toes”, while Kate could quite frankly care for no such thing, she has had her heart broken far too many times.
In London, Anthony has accepted the miserable nature of his life. His wife, Eleanor, presumed dead by London society is most definitely not dead, more like ran off and never to return. His son and family continue to be the only things keeping him sane while he ponders over the next steps in his probably short life.
As is the case, Kate and Anthony meet once more and unsurprisingly, the damnable spark still has not dimmed.

It reminded him so much of his responsibilities to his family, to his viscount title, which hardened his belief that their relationship was meant to be.
He wondered occasionally, not with despair, but with determination, what it would mean for her, should he die. He was confident that making sure she was looked after, past his death, would be enough for her to be happy forever, even without him. He figured the only way he could guarantee this, would be to marry her.
Regardless of scandal, he would not be swayed.
