She can't help but hiss as she feels the cold seep in. Adora's eyes finally meet hers for a moment. "Put your foot up and hold this."
Catra quietly does as she's asked, wincing as she elevates her leg. Then she looks at Adora, unclear what will happen now. She has a plan but now it feels silly in the face of how clearly upset Adora is. She's not sure what else she expected.
"Catra, why are you here?" Adora's arms are crossed over her chest, and she looks anything but happy to see her.
Catra feels her gut drop to her toes under Adora's searching gaze. "Surprised to see me?"
Adora scoffs angrily. "Yeah, I don't expect my ex-girlfriend to just show up out of the blue in the middle of a snowstorm."
It's a good thing that Adora turns around in that moment because Catra has no idea what her face looks like.

"Finn, baby, you can't just run off like that! I've been calling—" Adora's words stutter to a stop and so does her brain. Finn is holding hands with an absolute bombshell of a woman.
She's striking, one eyebrow slightly raised as she glances down at Finn and then up at her in a this yours? type of gesture. She has black jeans and a crop top on, along with combat boots—she's the last person Adora would think would stop to help a child find their parent at the grocery store.
Finn does a little jump, almost falling over in their excitement. "Mom! Isn't she so pretty?"

Her hands are rough as they quickly unbutton Adora's shirt, fingers nimble as she finds the problem quickly—a bullet hole in Adora's side. Adora hisses, biting her lip to avoid letting out a curse. She can see Catra's lips twitch into a smile as she pulls her shirt open.
It reminds her of other times, different times when Catra wasn't rough at all—when she slowly whispered kisses onto Adora's skin as she languidly stripped her. It's been a long time since Adora felt a touch like that.
Catra pokes her gloved hand into Adora's wound. "Fuck! Can you at least try not to make me bleed anymore?" She didn't want to say as much but she's feeling woozy from the blood loss.
"No. I need to get the bullet out or you'll be worse off." She grunts, digging into Adora's rib. Catra stops to shoot her a glare. "If you were smart, you wouldn't get shot."
"I tried that." She spits out. It’s not like she likes it when she gets shot. "This is plan B."
"It's a shit backup plan."

"Fuck, really?" She groans kicking a rock next to her. "This is really fucking annoying. The portal was supposed to short circuit distance, not time." Catra slumps over against a tree, leaning her head against it. She then eyes Adora curiously. "What's up with you and all the staring?" She smirks, one of her ears twitching. "Am I on some far-off diplomatic trip with Sparkles? I bet you hate that."
She shakes her head slowly, not sure what to even say. "I—Catra." The tears spring to her eyes now, not much she can do about it. "You're—You've been gone."
Her ears pin back and she stares at Adora, understanding marring her face. "I'm dead?"

"Catra." She barely recognizes her own name from Adora's lips, her voice hoarse from disuse. "What are we going to do?"
She furrows her brow. "What are you talking about?"
And that's when she catches sight of it. In Adora's trembling hand is a stick she'd only really seen on television shows. Adora shoves it forward so that Catra can see it clearly. Even with all the shaking, she can see the word "pregnant" on the test.
"I got the kind with words because what if I couldn't make out the lines, you know?" Her voice is pitched up, practically a screech as she holds herself. Adora wipes her tears, still shaking her head. "Remember the day I'd ordered takeout from the Plumerian place?" She feels Adora's stare as she waits for Catra's response.
"But I'm—I don't even think I have anything—" She presses her lips together, a wave of nausea rolling through her as reality sinks in. Adora is pregnant and it's her fault.

"It's the bitch that fucked up our last assignment. That firm has been going after too many of our targets so it's time to take out the competition."
Thank god, something productive to do and somewhere to channel her frustration with the whole mission. Adora opens the folder and stares. And stares. She then looks up at her friend and glares at her. "That's not funny, Glimmer."
She shoots Adora a confused glance. "What's not funny?"
She puts her finger on the huge printout on the front page. "That's—That's my wife!" It could be no other but Catra looking up at her, stone-cold serious in all black, looking how Adora's never seen her before.
Glimmer purses her lip. "Cute, Adora." She rolls her eyes. "That's not your wife, that's the competition. We need to take her out. She's not good for business."

Adora's mouth is dry and she's really worried her palms are sweating. "Love line?"
Catra nods her head. "Mhm. It's supposed to predict your romances and other significant relationships." She says it like she's reciting it out of a book, her hand trailing up and down the line. "This one is also deep. Long though. Means you're going to have tons of lovers."
Adora feels her cheeks heat up. "Catra!" She moves to snatch her hand back but Catra holds on tighter.
"I'm kidding! Relax." She says with a laugh. "It means you're going to meet your one true love and settle down for ages with them." She rolls her eyes. "Nice and boring."
"That doesn't sound so bad." She blurts out before she can think it through.
Catra's gaze turns interested. "Yeah?"
Adora nods faintly but she doesn't know what to do. Romance isn't something they talk about. "I mean, with the right person." She whispers faintly.

"I know. Okay, I'm ready." Catra leans against the wall, her chin tilted as if she's looking toward the floor off to the side.
Adora takes a deep breath and just admires her. Catra looks so effortlessly gorgeous, even now in a pair of sweatpants and a tank top. Adora lets herself pull on that, lets herself imagine a world where maybe she could try to pull a move like this on Catra.
She takes two confident steps forward until she is right in front of Catra. Adora purposefully presses her hand off to the side of Catra, pushing her weight onto her hand. She then uses her other hand to tilt Catra's chin so she's looking up at Adora.
Catra looks at her from beneath her lashes, and Adora forgets Catra's phone is recording. Adora leans closer still. "Is this what you wanted?" She breathes out.
Catra licks her lips her eyes flitting across Adora's face as she melts into the wall she's pressed against. "I..." Something flashes on her face but before Adora can discern it, she feels Catra's lips on hers.

Adora breathes sharply through her nose at the flash of recognition that hits her gut. It's the woman with the split eyes, handsome as ever, with unruly curls and a distrusting turn to her pink lips. The woman Adora longed to rescue her when she was a teen and then grew to fear ever meeting.
She outright glares at Adora, clearly peeved at having her plans disrupted. "My name is Catra. If I'm taking you any further than the next town over, you will be paying me."

"Strawberry." Adora bites her lip to keep from cooing at how the 'Rs' sounds like 'Ws'.
"A kid. That's um—that's cool." She'd never thought about children in more than a vague notion that could maybe be in her future.

Suddenly, because of the unexpected snowfall and icy roads, everyone is looking for replacement cabins and all of them are booked before Adora can snag one.
