Catra can't blame her because she does the same, trying to catalog any differences in her face, her voice, her body, anything that hints at what she's missed. Catra never asks first—never pushes—because she knows Adora would always give in. It has to be her choice. Adora's eyes lock on hers, fear and longing battling for dominance in her gaze.
"Are you...?" Adora's question trails off, the silence saying more than any words could.
Catra shakes her head softly. "And you?" Catra prompts, nervousness bubbling over in her stomach. Adora could be relieved but still unavailable, have a girlfriend or want different things that Catra could never provide."No, I'm not seeing anyone," Adora confirms, her gaze telling her everything else Catra wishes to know about them for the next week.
"See you tonight?" Catra offers. She knows she should probably settle in and sleep after her shitty flight but all she can think of is being in Adora's arms and her bed again.

A hush falls over the crowd and the reporter’s eyes bug out. "What do you mean?"
"I'm pregnant. The doctor cleared me to play in this tournament, but I won't be able to play for the rest of this season." The crowd gets louder with raucous applause for Adora and she waves at her fans. "That's about all I have to say about that. I've always kept my personal life personal, and I intend to continue to do that. I hope to be allowed that by you all."
The reporter nods quickly. "Well, congratulations on your win and on your baby. I know I can speak for all tennis fans when we say we will miss you on the court."
Adora’s smile turns sad. "I'll miss being on the court more than you all can possibly imagine but—" She slides her hands down gently touching the protruding bump "—some things are worth taking a break for, I think."

As her eyes adjust to the darkness, she gasps when she makes out Catra dressed in a suit. "What are you doing here?" Adora spits out in a panic. Catra could not have shown up at a worse time.
"What am I doing here? I don't know your Glittery friend practically manhandled me in here." Catra gets up and bangs on the closet door, it shakes and rattles. "I've come out of the closet once don't make me do it again!!" She threatens.
Glimmer's voice is muffled through the door. "Being queer is a constant act of coming out Catra, grow up!"
"Glimmer what are you doing? This wasn't the plan!" She hisses.
"You're in on this, princess?" Catra yells angrily, now turning on Adora.
Adora holds her hands up in surrender. "No, obviously not—"

"Catra I can hear you crying." She says bluntly. She knocks more insistently, more out of desperation than any sense that it would do much. Catra knows she's here. It's just a question of whether she'll reject Adora again.
"No, you can't." Catra sounds almost petulant as she covers up a sniffle and it makes a short bark of laughter escape Adora's lungs. Catra’s voice sounds closer that time.
She tamps down the hope that Catra will open the door if only so she isn’t let down again. "Whatever you say Cat." There's a moment of silence and Adora sighs. She's not even sure what she did to upset Catra, but she just wants to fix it. She can't bear for there to be this hurt between them.
She turns around, leaning against Catra's door. "Can I ask you a question?" Her voice wobbles as she gets the words out. She's not even sure if Catra is still there listening as she sinks onto the ground, leaning her head against the door.

Instead, Adora has to lower her gaze to find a stunning woman wearing shorts and a vintage t-shirt that is somehow both baggy and still looks great on her.
The brunette eyes Adora up and down, a devastating smile crossing her lips as she does so. Adora stares back, mouth open to say something but no sound comes out.

For a moment, Adora just stares dumbly at the brunette, wondering how anything could be more important to Mara than this date. "I'm not Mara." Are the first words out of her mouth. "But I'm here for the date." Crap she meant to say words that actually made sense together but she's busy realizing that Catra has two colored eyes.
"I could have sworn Glimmer said your name was Mara." She says offhandedly as she looks Adora up and down.
"Adora." She introduces herself, holding out her hand. Catra reaches out and shakes it, her fingers lingering on Adora's palm.
She stares at Adora for a long moment. "Alright then, ready to go?"
With dawning horror, Adora realizes Catra thinks that Adora is her blind date. Adora stops to clarify, to explain that there's been a misunderstanding, but then she's pinned under those gorgeous eyes, and she decides that there's no way she's saying no to a date with this woman. Sorry, Mara.

"Relax baby, I'll never let anything happen to you." She smirks, confident in her ability to make the world do as she wishes. And right now, her world is Adora. "We have more money than we could ever want and a clean getaway plan. Tomorrow we will be sipping cocktails on the deck of our boat. Now we just need to enjoy tonight."
It’s not that simple, they still have to find a way to fence their biggest prize, the Heart of Etheria, and actually make it to the damn boat. But all of that can wait.
Catra leans down placing open mouth kisses down Adora’s neck, gripping both sides of her button-down tightly. She runs one hand lightly over Adora's bound chest, a barely there touch that doesn't remind Adora of what's underneath.
"I'm always going to take care of you. And right now, I'm going to make you feel good." She leans back and lets Catra have her way with her, eyes fluttering shut as she savors every touch, both rough and soft.
The next morning, she wakes up alone—no loot, no wallet, and no Catra.

Adora nods, half paying attention as she finishes put the final lines of her health form. "Yeah, I'm sure." She mumbles absentmindedly. Just as she's about to return to her seat she hears someone clear their throat.
"Adora?" The woman calls out.
Adora just about drops the clipboard. The woman is gorgeous, all tan skin and dark freckles, hips canted to the side as she puts a hand on her waist.
The woman gives her a questioning look, her cute nose slightly upturned as she looks Adora up and down. "You are Adora right?"
Adora snaps out of it. "Yes! Right! Adora! That's me." Her voice pitching high as she puts the clipboard on Perfuma’s desk. She ignores Perfuma’s giggles.
"Alright 'that's me, Adora' my name’s Catra. Let’s get you some x-rays and then your cleaning." She motions for Adora to come with her.

The spaceship was so quiet everyone would hear a pin drop.
"Wait, so that baby is yours?" Adora looked like her brain broke, she’d been suspiciously quiet since older Catra and the child appeared.

Adora stares at the mirror across the room taking in their reflection. They know they look good. She picked her favorite jean shorts and white dress shirt and layered that on top of her pride t-shirt. The t-shirt's cropped, incorporating both the lesbian and nonbinary flags. She'd recently cut her hair short, something they were terrified of doing but ultimately feels amazing and freeing.
So why can she see her hands shake? She clenches one fist willing it to stop. Their hands are also clammy as she runs them across her temples. They lean backward, sliding onto the ground as they try to catch their breath. Their really glad they decided against putting on their binder today. Their bedroom starts to feel just a little smaller as she crumbles onto the ground.
