Summary

So when a venture with his Grandmother takes him into the fallen La Manchaland, Jia Baoyu decides to try and help someone, one last time.
Don Quixote of La Manchaland has spent the last two hundred years dwelling on all his failures, and has come to the only logical conclusion: That his nature as a bloodfiend prevents any manner of change, and that his dream had been nothing but a fantasy. With his family dead, he has resigned himself to the same fate; only to end up living with a small human child who still has a dream of his own.
Maybe they can both learn something from each other.

Shang Qinghua let out a long, shaky breath. “Right. Okay. Sure. No problem. I can work with that. That’s fine.” He shifted the baby in his arms, looking down at the tiny, squirming face, the damp lashes clinging together. “You hear that? As long as you make it to the sect, everything’s good. Easy quest conditions. No trauma required.”
Luo Binghe made a faint snuffling sound, unimpressed.
Shang Qinghua’s smile collapsed almost instantly. “Oh, gods, what am I saying?” He scrubbed a hand over his face, leaving another smear of drying blood. “I’m not qualified for this! I can barely keep myself alive half the time! You need—uh—you need a responsible, kindhearted woman from a humble background with good soup-making skills, not a chronically overworked peak lord-slash-spy!”
The baby responded by making a small, gurgling noise that sounded alarmingly like agreement.
“Don’t sass me,” Shang Qinghua muttered. “You’re, like, twelve minutes old.”

She holds it out to him, eyes pulling from the game and hand moving away as he grabs it—flipping open to the names of his many classmates over the prewritten message of health.
He flicks her a glance, “Thank you.”

Kris is more determined than normal; but with every advantage a vessel gains, their opposition must gain one greater than that. A more outgoing and charismatic Kris can tackle some of their problems head on, but they very quickly find that they’re not the only one with agency they lacked before. And while they can finally reach for what they truly desire, sometimes that’s in contrast to what they think they want.
With a soul that whispers prescient instructions, and friends that seem very worried about the Dark World they find themselves in, Kris can only hope that, in the end, they can make things work out in their favour.
