Summary
A travelling circus has come to the city.
Between running the library and fixing her sleep schedule, Edith doesn't have the luxury of getting excited at the idea of possibly going. Emphasis on 'possibly' because the tickets were stupidly expensive.
Since the circus arrived, the streets have been littered with flyers and performers. And since then, someone who introduced himself as 'Jester' has been making daily trips to the library. Edith usually wouldn't think much of it if she didn’t sense that there was something peculiar with him—no, all of them.
Her superstitious neighbors were probably rubbing off on her. Or maybe she's read too much fiction. His lingering gaze on her, like he was studying the very depths of her soul, certainly wasn't helping.
She tries to play it cool, convincing herself it was just nothing. That the circus will leave soon enough.
Except...the circus doesn't seem to want to leave her alone. Nor let her go.
And for some reason, Edith doesn't want them to.

Dying didn't hurt you, not as much as you expected. You'd killed plenty, and were prepared for it.
What took you by surprise was, after you opened your eyes, you were in unfamiliar territory. There were so many questions, so many differences. The only things that were the same was the shake in your hands, and the lack of words on your tongue. The crippling anxiety eating away at your sanity.
After some time, trying to find your bearings you realize if you don't figure out something fast, you're going to starve or succumb to the elements. The circus in town may be your only option. You heard there was an opening to feed the animals?

Summary
A commotion breaks out a little ways down the street, drawing your lazy gaze over to see what was going on. A crowd happened to be gathering and staring at said disturbance, not letting you view from your vantage point by the cafe.
It is way too early and cold for this.
A few people shuffle away and it leaves enough area for you to peek through. Standing in the middle of the road, a clearly drunken man is shouting at the top of his lungs at someone. A performer for a circus is on the ground, making your eye twitch.
A bully and their victim.
