She couldn’t really blame them with the stories they had been told about the northmen and their ways, though she had yet to see any of them mauling or raping christian women or satanically praying to the Devil. She had seen people, doing what normal people did, children playing in the streets as she had once played with Matthew in their home.
She would survive she decided then, finally accepting the truth that had been nagging at her since she had realized she had not died for her faith like she should have. The Lord had fashioned her, he had made her the way she was and He had given her the freedom of choice and she was choosing to survive this hell. If He had made her this way.. if Heaven’s doors were forever closed to her because of her impure thoughts and actions — she had wanted to kill another person after all, she was hardly innocent — she would make sure to stay as comfortably as possible in hell. If she was fated to fall she’d make one hell of a fall that would make even angels weep in her wake.
“Karoline” he called her, his accent making her name sound almost foreign, sourer with an edge so sharp it reminded her of a blade “come”
