Summary
Panes of glass surrounded him on all sides, the space hardly large enough to stretch out his tail. Even though he was regarded as smaller among his kind, it was still a tight squeeze, but he made it work. Had to make it work, considering it was all Aventurine was provided.
It was hard to tell how long he’s been here, the days rolling over into the weeks. Or at least that is what he’s gathered, having lost track of time long ago.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this…Merman Aventurine was captured by pirates and managed to escape into the arms of the local lighthouse keeper, Veritas Ratio. A merventurine fic based off of the genius artwork of havanillas.

Deep down, the way that he felt was undeniable. But as he gazed upon the turbulent waves that crashed against the dock and lapped at their ankles, one thing was certain. He couldn't voice those feelings, even if by some miracle she felt the same way. He had to bury them, somewhere deep beneath these waves.
"I guess today we'll just have to watch from the surface!" she remarked.
Harumasa stared down at the surface of the water. It swayed just a few meters below them, but its surface had never looked so unbreakable before. In the darkness beneath the rocks of the shore, he silently tucked away the feelings that stirred up in his heart.
"Yeah, we can just watch from up here," he replied, smiling gently.

This is primarily a character study of Harumasa and Yanagi, but there is a Companion Hollow-shaped plot looming in the background.

Hollows were always a mystery, and they were always something to fear. For humans to make use of a hollow, however, that was even scarier.
When it's been revealed that Kirishima, somebody that tormented Harumasa throughout his life, has escaped from prison, it's not a surprise that Harumasa's life is in danger. More than ever, actually, given that Harumasa now has to traverse the infamous Iremia Hollow- a strange hollow that never seems to let anyone out.

The sentence barely registers in Mydei’s mind as he stares at the shadow of the man who was once Phainon, who sits completely still in a chair, dull eyes staring sightlessly ahead.

The Antikytheran-like man continues reading through the digitized logs impartially, as if merely reciting a speech. But every single word he says drives another stake into Mydei’s heart.
Mydeimos the Undying scarcely bowed his head, rarely lowered himself onto his knees, and never, ever begged. And yet he finds himself doing all three things now, before the broken shell of his beloved.

Summary
In his early days as a slave, Aventurine was subjected to neuro-reprogramming that, when activated, makes him mindlessly obedient. Thankfully, the program was scrapped, and it’s been over a decade since he’s even seen someone who knows the key phrase – but Aventurine’s luck runs out while he’s crashing Ratio’s vacation.
