Summary
A violent shiver wracked Frodo’s body at the mere thought of the dark lands they were all too steadily approaching. Or, that they hoped to approach. It had been nearly two days, or as near to two days as one could figure in the sunless land, and the two hobbits had been travelling in circles.
“Mr. Frodo?” Frodo started at the familiar voice, sitting up to turn towards his companion. “What is it Sam?” he answered, swallowing down the bitter taste as best he could, the feeling laying coiled in his chest like a snake ready to rear its ugly head.
“You’re shivering something awful. I’ve got plenty a’ warmth left in my limbs yet, you take my cloak an’ layer it up there.” Frodo smiled at the hobbit, a gentler look in his eyes than had been there but a moment ago. The stout hobbit had been shivering himself, but hastily had put on the guise of warmth for the sake of his friend.
“Oh Sam"

Frodo was not precisely certain what a hobbit in love was supposed to do. He had taken to staring at the ceiling while thinking about Sam’s eyes, and frequently reliving in his mind’s eye every time he had ever made Sam laugh.
In which Sam is Frodo’s first love, and Frodo has no earthly idea what to do about it.

Sam had always thought of himself as a very open-minded hobbit - but it could be that there was a difference between knowing that Mister Frodo did things, things certain other hobbits might say were unnatural, in his bedchamber, and seeing him there in his nightshirt with another lad’s hands all over him. In which Sam walks in on Frodo in a compromising position and comes to a realisation (eventually).

Whizzer slaps him on the shoulder, hitting Marvin like a bullet to the chest, “It’s more like a collaboration.”
Marvin sucks in a quick, deep breath, pointing out in a low murmur, “I don’t play well with others.”
Whizzer looks him up and down, sizing him up.
“I can tell.” Whizzer says, and this time when he touches Marvin’s shoulder, he lets his hand linger, “But we’re not going to be doing much playing.”When Marvin doesn’t respond, Whizzer squeezes his padded shoulder. He’s smiling, in a way that devastates Marvin.
Tilting his head, Whizzer asks, a bit coy, “Are we, Mr. Marvin?”

Marvin is a drama teacher who has an understandable flair for the dramatics. Whizzer is the new baseball coach who won't stop stealing everything that Marvin worked so hard to fortify - his prestige, his kid, his heart.
