Stiles looked up and shook his head. “No… what is it?”
“It’s the idea that the smallest of situations, can set the biggest consequences in motion. A butterfly flapping it’s wings on one side of the world, creates a hurricane on the other.”
He nodded, that’s exactly how this situation sounds right now. If he and Scott never went out that fateful night and looked for that body, or if he and Derek never became friends, or hell, if he never agreed to Deatons plan in the first place… then none of this would be happening.
But fuck it, ‘caution’ isn’t in his vocabulary.

Summary
A wolf howled, long and mournful. Stiles looked around, his breath coming in visible puffs on the frosty air as he searched for fur and fangs and sad eyes, but he saw only the swaying green limbs of evergreen trees in the wind. Snow started to fall and he looked up at the white sky, blinking, before he fell backwards to land softly on a familiar bed. He blinked again and the soft white of the sky solidified into his bedroom ceiling with its neon green glow in the dark stars. He watched as a nebula formed in the space between his outstretched hand and the plastic stars, mesmerized as it roiled and burned in fast forward to birth a star, a real one, right into his bedroom. The star burned white hot against his skin, so bright and painful that his nerves couldn’t compute. He twisted away desperately, crying out. A dark skinned man in the corner watched calmly as he writhed and said, “We begin in the dark, and birth is the death of us.” Stiles screamed as the fire sunk into his skin, his soul, and fell once more into the darkness.

Stiles ends up in 2004, before the Hale fire, and learns a lot about himself, life, and what it means to hold onto what you love and not let go.

“The day! What day is today?!” Derek let Stiles go, but only so he could reach into his pocket and pull out his phone. He tapped at the home screen, and then went so perfectly still that Stiles was pretty sure this guy wasn’t human. No human could stand that still.
When it was clear Derek wasn’t going to move again without some prompting, Stiles said, “It’s Wednesday.”
“That’s impossible,” Derek whispered.
“Not really, it comes around every seven days.”
“This is impossible,” Derek said again, looking around himself, as if he was searching for something.

He held Stiles’ face like it was the most precious thing and licked Stiles’ neck like he owned it. A kiss was the first thing to greet Stiles in the mornings they spent together, and at nights, it was the last thing he felt on his face. Each time was more desperate than the last.
Derek told him he was made to be kissed. It was a reward, a pleasure, a relief.
And then, after all of this, he would disappear. For two days, three, or for a week. Stiles would choke from the thought that this time he definitely ruined it (how? god, how?), and then, in a click of a light, Derek would come back as if he were always there. Calling from a hidden number, cupping his chin, tugging Stiles closer with his hand splayed on his back, so big and insistent. Kissing, loving, refusing to let go.
But only in a closed room, in the darkest corner of a restaurant, in a black sports car with its windows thick and tinted.
Stiles dreaded saying goodbye.

Summary

Through this they notice more and more about Stiles and the bruises that seem to be popping up on his skin each day. With no one else seeming to notice, not even his pack, the Hale’s are forced to step in for the safety of the boy that has started to grow on them.

In an act of quick placation, Stiles throws up two palms facing outwards in front of his chest. His eyebrows knit together as he hastily and vehemently begins to shake his head, trying desperately to telegraph just how severely Derek has grasped at the wrong end of the stick here.

“You need to get the fuck out of here before I call the cops.” Derek pauses a moment, his nostrils flaring just a second before his eyes flash burning red, his entire face screwing up in this expression of pure disgust that sends a shiver down Stiles’ spine. “Christ, and you’re a human? A human omega? What kind of fucking moron breaks into a werewolves’ house when they’re just a weak fucking human?”
