Louis is old, and desperately lonely - but that's fine, and expected. He chose to leave his coven, after all, and he enjoys leading. He doesn't need anything else, shouldn't long for things he can't have. He's busy, and occupied, and chooses to be content. Happiness is irrelevant, after all... except when it comes to the diseased lumberjack he's met. He's kind and funny, and smart as a whip in a way that utterly astounds Louis - and he doesn't deserve the life he's been dealt.
Louis would never dream of being so utterly illogical for himself... but Owen needs help, and if he chose not to offer that when he could fix it all?

Summary
Losing a fledgling is hard on any vampire. Losing a sire is even worse, and having both happen at once is a nightmare, especially to a fledgling who is only a few months old. And to have it happen to Shelby, the sweetest of them all, is horrific.
Scott is so ancient, so out of touch with his emotions, that he can barely remember what it feels like to grieve, and he can hardly comprehend what Shelby is going through. Something is wrong, and he doesn't know how to fix it, how to bring her back.
All he remembers through the haze of his carefully walled off past is that something like this has happened before, and if he loses Shelby, well... the past massacres of Oakhurst will look like nothing at all.

A sad sound was made and Scott was moving to attend to them.
Abolish turned on his side and tried finding the edge of the nest.
“Ah, ah.” Scott grabbed him and pulled him to the centre. “No escape attempts for you.”
Abolish hissed weakly, upset that communicating without words was already woven into his new form so seamlessly.
