Kakashi jumped to his feet with a snarl. He did not know of a genjutsu that could fool the sharingan—would not have believed it to be possible. But here, in this illusion that was so elaborately built and powerfully enacted, not only did his borrowed sharingan fail to dispel the illusion but it made him believe that he was still five, that his father just died, that Kakashi did not possess the sharingan at all.
This was not his nightmare, the copy-nin realized with growing horror. This was every shinobi's nightmare.

Summary
While on a mission storming a HYDRA facility, James Buchanan Barnes touches one of the many strange alien devices collected by the Red Skull. He does this, in fact, twice— in the past, and in the future.
Next thing he knows, Bucky Barnes is opening his eyes in the 21st century, which is full of great gadgets and coffee, and at least includes his old pal Steve. (And, inexplicably, a different Stark.) Meanwhile, the Winter Soldier finds himself in the middle of World War Two, helping Captain America hunt down HYDRA (which is at least familiar), pretending to be Bucky Barnes (which is not), and figuring out the very noisy group of soldiers who call themselves the Howling Commandos.

Sometimes it’ll get so late down in engineering that Trip finds himself multitasking between repairing the engine and daydreaming about the various Academy activities he had shared with Malcolm.
He thinks about the way his back would arch ever so perfectly against Trip’s front, or how they would find any wall to make out against, keeping quiet in fear of alerting their unsuspecting roommates; the way the red Starfleet Academy uniform would perfectly cup Reed’s ass-
And then he usually stops himself before it can go any further, with shame, annoyance, and the slightest bit of sexual frustration pooling inside of him.(Or: Trip and Malcolm find themselves on the same posting. The last time they talked, they were cadets (and fuckbuddies) (...and maybe a bit more).
Tensions are high, feelings are left unsaid, and they both are violently ignoring the fact that they still think about each other.

It's been more than a month since the Enterprise has entered the Delphic Expanse in search of the Xindi, and Malcolm's as frustrated as the rest of the crew at their lack of progress. He tries to be a good friend for Trip, even though it's getting harder and harder to not be anything more than that. Perhaps he can just accept that they'll dance around each other, missing hints and making eye contact, but a man as popular and attractive as the chief engineer would never actually want to hook up with Malcolm, let alone date him, right?

Captain Price sends him a location for a place that should be safe. Soap didn't expect to see Ghost in the doorway when he gets there, bare-footed, in comfortable clothes and his worn-out balaclava.
