Steve shifted his attention to her and the two of them shared a look. Whatever he seemed to be looking for in her endless green eyes, he didn’t find. He sighed, giving up. The captain opened his mouth, about to say something when the doors to the lab slid open and he was interrupted with a sob.
Their heads snapped in that direction, instantly on alert.
Steve watched confused as Agent Coulson walked in, a crying child in his hands, both looking distressed. He glanced at Banner, expecting to find some form of regnesion on the man’s face but he found nothing. The man looked as confused as Steve felt. Natasha didn’t seem affected at all either. She remained expressionless as always, eyes trained on the crying child. A well hidden flash of curiosity appeared momentarily on her face, Steve barely caught it.
“What happened?” Tony asked, sounding panicked. He rushed to step forward, putting his hands out to accept the crying boy into his own arms.

Homecoming AU.
Ben and May divorced before Peter’s parents died, so when Ben is murdered Peter goes into foster care. It takes just a tiny taste of superpowers for Peter to decide he doesn’t want to put up with his horrible foster father anymore—the streets are infinitely more appealing. All he wants is to be Spider-Man anyway.
So he leaves.
Simple.
Simple, that is, until Iron Man needs Spider-Man’s help. Peter isn’t about to turn down an opportunity to fight alongside Tony Freaking Stark, but he also isn’t going to let his hero know that his recruit is a fifteen-year-old homeless dropout. So they strike a deal. Peter will help Tony. In return, the mask stays on.
And that’s when things get complicated.

Peter grins as his fingers flex on the metal railing, preparing to let go, to plummet gracefully (because he can be graceful, okay?). His fingers loosen and-

Fahhhhhhh...
Peter indistinctively grips the railing tighter, metal bending slightly under his grip. He loosens his grip a bit, just enough so it wouldn't break the railing. He slowly turns around, dread pooling in his stomach. "Yes?" Peter bites out, annoyed.
Then he freezes.
"Kid, why don't you get behind the railing?" Sam Wilson--the frickin Falcon asks him, hands gripping the straps of his metal wings, almost as if he were trying to look casual, but failing miserably. "Why don't we talk about this?"
Or: Peter wants to go home, via jumping off a roof at SI. Sam Wilson lands on the very same roof at the same time and misunderstands the situation.

“…Natasha called,” Tony said finally.
The girl made a small sound, tugging on his shirt. Tony’s attention snapped back to her instantly, something in his expression softening in a way that made the boy’s chest tighten again.
“Was it about…?” Bug trailed off as she glanced between her parents with hopeful eyes. When Tony winced, she wrapped her arms around her father’s neck and said, “That’s okay, Daddy. Maybe…maybe I haven’t been calling him home loud enough. Tomorrow can we call him louder? Maybe he just hasn’t heard us yet.”
Pepper smiled softly at the girl and pressed a kiss to her forehead as she agreed. “That sounds like a great plan.”
“Alright,” Tony said after a moment, voice lighter now—deliberately so. “Tomorrow we’ll call him so loud he won’t be able to ignore us. Deal?”
“Deal!” the girl chirped immediately, bright and certain.
As he escapes hidden underground labs, he finds himself in the middle of a forest while men hunt him down with guns. He's left to fend for himself while navigating the world with no clue as to who he was.
When he stumbles across a familiar man and cabin though, he finds himself drawn to the little family that lived there.

Tony seems to notice where he’s staring. “You wanna get out?” he asks, voice a tad softer than before. A sad look appears in his eyes that makes Peter bristle. “Yeah, I can get you out,” Tony says. “You have to get me out of this stuff first, though.” He tugs at his webbed up feet for emphasis.
Peter’s muscles tense at the movement. He scuttles back, letting out a hiss and baring his teeth to show his fangs.
Tony startles, but it quickly melts away into amusement. “Yes, you’re very scary,” he says with a grin. But a moment later it falls away, his face becoming more serious, sincere. “It’s alright, kid,” he says. “I’m not here to hurt you.”
Peter doesn’t believe that for a second.

Peter Parker was an intern at Stark Industries, mostly helping Mr Stark with his many projects but also drifting between intern labs on the R&D floors, helping out whoever he could. Peter Parker, however, was first and foremost a kid in high school, a regular civilian. Everyone knew he would never kill anyone, knew he would never touch a gun, much less know how to use one.
Spider-Man was a vigilante in Queens, rarely drifting from his territory. Though he worked so closely with the Avengers on many occasions that he was widely accepted to be one of them himself, a hero of New York. Everyone knew he would never kill anyone, knew he would never touch a gun, much less know how to use one.
The Winter Widow, strictly speaking, didn’t exist anymore. But when he did exist he was Hydra’s, and partially Red Room as well, best soldier. Considered as one of the best spies and assassins, very much a villain. The Winter Widow was a well-known killer, he had no rules or qualms about it, and he was a perfect shot with a gun.

Peter Parker, as we all know, has some very weird habits. Like stuffing the microwave full of popcorn. And raising his arms to intimidate people. And hiding in crawlspaces. However, those last two are a safety thing. Well, actually, that first one is a safety concern.
Basically, he's weird.
If you see a spider, you are in the wrong spot. Spiders know your whole routine, which is why you hardly see them. So, Peter Parker learning the routines of everyone on the team and hiding away is not that crazy of a concept.

“Uh…” Peter nervously looks over at Tony.
Tony sighs and motions for Peter to come and stand next to him. He throws his arm around Peter’s shoulders, a move to comfort both of them, and also give himself a boost of confidence. “This is Peter”.
Peter gives a shy wave and Clint raises an eyebrow, “and Peter is?”
“Peter is the main reason why I care about you getting to see your kids…” Tony takes in a breath to relax himself. While he doesn’t trust Barton…he does trust that the man wouldn’t tell anyone about Peter being his son. Barton knows what it’s like to keep your kids a secret to keep them safe. “I wouldn’t want to be kept away from my kid either”.

Rhodey freezes mid-step and mid-sentence when he see’s Tony… or more accurately when he sees a kid sitting next to his friend.
…a kid that, when he and Tony look up at him entering the lab, looks freakishly like Tony did when he first met him back at MIT.
It may have been 30 years, give or take, since he met his best friend, but he’d never forget the first time that he met the skinny little kid that had a busted lip because he had mouthed off to one of the much older students.
He’d never forget that little face.
The face that he was suddenly seeing all over again…sat next to his best friend.
