Now Gwaine wasn’t stupid. Yes maybe he was hungover or drunk most of the time, but he could still put two and two together. All the convenient branches, the can only be killed with magic creatures that Arthur somehow killed, and for God sakes he’s strength, Arthur’s courage, and Merlin just happens to be there? Give him some more credit.
Or
Gwaine knows about Merlin's magic, Merlin doesn't know Gwaine knows, and Arthur comes in later.

Summary
In the midst of capturing a magical creature, Merlin is transported to a world where Camelot is home to thousands of magic-users. King Uther is nowhere to be found, Arthur is a prince again, and Queen Ygraine sits on the throne.
Merlin plans to get back to his own reality, to his own Camelot. To do that, however, he must have access to information that is inside a shielded castle protected by powerful sorcerers. The only way in is to participate in the Apprentice Exam and be an apprentice to a magic-user included in Camelot's court. Should be easy . . . right?
Conspiracies are afoot and Merlin just knows that, somehow, he is or will be involved. Just his luck.

Merlin stepped back. He was… appalled. Shocked. Angry. Slightly hungry. MAD. Who did they think they were?!
“Excuse me?!” Arthur screeched. “Merlin has magic?!”
“Yes.” Leon deadpanned. “Now please, Merlin.”
How did he get here? How did this happen to him? Why was his life like this? He just wanted to be in his nice warm bed and instead he was soaked, stuck in a magical cave, and made to listen to his friends reveal all his secrets.
Right. Sounded about accurate.
OR
Merlin just wants to be home. Unfortunately, it seems like everyone else his different ideas. Typical.
