The half-arsed derision in his tone doesn’t seem to surprise or intimidate Remus. He only smiles, knowing.
It is one thing to love a person; it is quite another to see them as they truly are and to love them all the same. And sometimes, Sirius thinks, he’d rather die than let anybody see beneath the defensive facade of his brave face.
From 1971 to 1978, the Hogwarts years of obsession, betrayal, recklessness, lies, too much drink, insecurity, and all eclipsing sexual frustration. Seven years of Sirius Black’s insufferable god-complex, of Remus Lupin’s most private shames, of secret relationships, awkward hookups, James Potter’s blunt advice, and more yearning than sense. Seven years for Sirius to finally admit to himself that what he wants is not only to be loved, but to be known entirely. And therein lies the difficulty.

And then, as both cat and witch stare at the jug, the pieces are suddenly no more, instead replaced entirely by liquid. “Heck. Magic is draining. I’m going to need a nap later.”
“Why do you think I start at 5 am and only open at 11?” Seokjin grumbles, before he sighs, “yeah, okay. I get your point. No tea then. But we gotta think of something to make with avocados.”
“Why the fuck are we doing avocados?”
“Because I ordered avocados.”“Oh. Ok. Let me rephrase that: why the fuck are we doing avocados?”

Summary
Even people who've known Yami for less than five minutes usually agree that he's an ass. Those who've known him a bit longer usually tack on, 'sadistic bastard.' If they really know him, they might throw in that he's a decent guy underneath it all, but that's what they always start with.
By contrast, Yami is probably the only person who would use those terms to describe Finral. Then again, so far as Yami knows, he's the only one Finral's really shown that side to. Though he's gotten a bit snarkier with the Bulls.
It almost makes Yami pity all the girls who only see the playboy routine. The real Finral is a hell of a lot more fun to mess with.
(A while back on tumblr I posted a YamiFin headcanon about Finral secretly being a little shit, and this is the fic-child of that headcanon. Basically, the Keeping Score ficverse is a bunch of oneshots wherein Yami and Finral start out as friends who mess with each other as a running joke, and eventually become lovers who mess with each other as a running joke.)
