“Get out.” Will was already moving toward the door, hand on the knob. He needed Mike gone before he said something irreversible—before the words spilled out sharp and unforgiving.

Summary
It's 1995 and Michael Wheeler has been struggling in the years since Jane Hopper's death and the closing of the gates.
Our story begins at the start of his third stay in a mental health facility, after being found intoxicated and unresponsive by close friends Max Mayfield and Lucas Sinclair. Mike, Max and Lucas stayed in Indianapolis after graduating college. They are still close with Will, who lives in Chicago, and Dustin, who lives in Cleveland.
Just as Mike starts to settle in for his 72 hour voluntary hold, he is confronted by a stranger who is inexplicably compelling and knows far too much.
Most startling of all, she claims she has been sent to find him by a ghost from his past.

Mike projects his feelings through a dungeons and dragons character he’s helping Will write named “Melchor”, a fallen Paladin, who also happens to be a peeping tom obsessed with a Cleric.
What begins as harmless watching and roleplay quickly turns into voyeurism: binoculars aimed at Will’s bedroom window, stolen NSFW sketches, and dangerously intimate D&D roleplay that reveals far more about Will and Mike's desires/insecurities than they're prepared for.

He took a moment, entering the field of memories his mind carried for an answer, something he possibly missed in his time gone. Trees that aren’t as green anymore, forests that he would got lost in so many times growing up, curly dark hair, freckles dusted over pale cheeks that tinted pink in the cold. Wills chest tightened, an ache between his ribs that sickened his stomach, bottom lip twitching as his gaze fell, his grip on his pants tightened, a heaviness that built up behind his eyes.

Mike knows that he is a yearning train wreck, the level of arousal that he feels towards Will is frankly obscene. He can't be a creep, he cares so much for him (possibly to much), and if he does the wrong thing he could lose him.
Will doesn't make it easy for him, he exists and Mike feels like he is going to burst. Mike tries and fails many many times to fight against the stranglehold that Will has over his body.

Goth Mike waits patiently for his answer. Will steadies himself with a deep breath and gazes ahead. “I used to a lot." He shrugs. "I try not to anymore, because we’re just meant to be friends in our universe.” Will tries to say it as though he’s happily accepted the reality. It doesn’t hurt any less. “But… it still happens sometimes,” he whispers.
Goth Mike looks at him with pain behind his eyes. “Do you want to know what it’s like? Right now?”

Will peeked up at him, just enough to see the shy smile tugging at Mike’s lips. “I… I don’t even know if that’ll work,” he admitted, voice soft. “What if it doesn’t? What if it just keeps happening?”
Mike shook his head firmly. “It will work. And if it doesn't, we’ll find something else. We always do.”
Will’s lips quirked in the faintest hint of a smile. “You’re right. We always do.”
Mike leaned forward, careful not to crowd him, “First we need to try to find a way to turn the lights back on. Reverse what you did. Do you think you can–” He gestures towards Will’s crotch, a blush crossing his cheeks, “--Go again?”OR: Will finds himself unable to control his new powers when he gets aroused. Every time he gets "excited," strange things happen with the power. He tries to convince himself it's a coincidence, but when he finishes, and the power goes completely out, he begins to panic.
His panic takes him straight to Mike's window, and Mike offers a helping hand. In a best friend way, of course.- Language:

Every night, Will would sneak in and try every spell possible to awaken his lover, unfortunately nothing has come from it. He turned to the dark magic, but for the spell to work he needed another version of Mike in his clutches, luckily for Will, a portal had opened up to the aftermath of the Mac-Z battle, giving him the opportunity to snatch that Mike away from his timeline. Our Will, immediately suspicious of his other self, will stop at nothing to protect his best friend he is secretly in love with.

....are you sure it was just a crush? ." Mike was speaking again, hesitantly, and he looked like he was asking the most horrifying thing his brain will allow.
Will felt a jolt, deep in his soul. He turned away and closed his eyes quickly to bite back some of the pain in his heart.
"Yeah I'm sure. It was nothing Mike, just a stupid coming of age crush - gone before it even had time to leave a mark." He swallowed, hoping Mike wouldn't hear the wobble in his voice.
Mike was still standing, frozen on the stairs so Will forced himself to half turn back again as he started to walk up. "Seriously Mike, don't even think about it any more, I don't."
And he walked out of the basement door into the hallway to join the others.
Mike was left on the stairs. Hope dead in his eyes. A single tear begging to be released. His heart aching in his chest. He was too late.
