With 15 years of Dragon Age characters, I realised there was a pattern to my romances and endings and only a couple of my characters ever got happy endings in their love lives.

This is simply a small series of scenes as I practice my writing and get some of my little plot bunnies out of my head. Maybe one day they will become stories.

The Fifth Blight had ended, and Ferelden has begun to rebuilt. With Alistair Theirin crowned as king and Caitriona Cousland as his queen, the nation celebrated a union fit for legend of the two Grey Wardens turned royal lovers.

Yet, behind the facade of royal splendour, their marriage was forged not from love, but from duty and sacrifice.

Determined never to fall in love, Caitriona had resigned herself to her fate as Alistair's queen. At least, until a fateful journey to Vigil’s Keep to assist the Grey Wardens. And Alistair, having spent his whole life under the orders of another, begins to learn that being king allows him certain freedoms he never would have expected.

Beneath the weight of expectations and loyalty to the throne, desires and temptations arise that will challenge the foundations of their lives.

    Summary

It has been almost three years since Hadriana's death, time in which Fenris' quiet moments have been occupied with tracking down his sister... and with his slowly-eroding resolution to stay away from Hawke's bed since their one ill-fated night together. To all appearances, Danarius has finally given up the chase.

But Danarius is not one to let things go, and he has not been idle.

    ____

When I was playing DAII, during Fenris' 'Alone' questline, morbid curiosity made me reload a save to check what happens if you give Fenris back to Danarius - and it seemed just so bizarrely impassive and out of character on Hawke's part, it instantly got my brain ticking over as to how it might be explained. This is what I came up with, borrowing a few bits of lore introduced in Inquisition.

    Summary

"Rook, stop! You don't know what you're—" Morrigan's voice echos around her before the world becomes deafeningly quiet instead.

Now well and truly alone, Elara puts her half-concocted plan into action, sinking to her knees and closing her eyes. She has no idea if it will work, has no idea the consequences if it does, but the odds have never been enough to deter her before and they sure as hell won't be enough now.

You don't know when to quit, do you, Rook?

Lost in grief and desperation after losing her entire team, Elara unintentionally thrusts herself back to the days of the Inquisition in one last attempt to fix it all. It's one hell of a second chance, as long she doesn't ruin it just like she's ruined everything else she touches.

    Summary

Eighteen months ago, Bryn Cousland crawled out of the burning wreckage of her home and into the Blight, without a Grey Warden there to catch her. Now the Blight is over, the Grey Wardens are rebuilding their order in Ferelden, and Bryn wants to be a hero. What better way than to present herself at Vigil's Keep as a recruit?

And then the Hero of Ferelden conscripts the son of her family's murderer, and Bryn realises that she probably made a mistake.

    Summary

In Kirkwall’s warren of alleys and darkened stone, violence is a language more common than the Trade tongue. Katica Basri, a Crow-trained assassin bound to a spirit she cannot always control, is drawn into the tangled lives of Hawke and his companions: outcasts, fugitives, and those who have lost more than they can name.

But it’s Fenris— a fellow survivor shaped by cruelty and loss— whose presence cuts closest. Together they must navigate trauma, both shared and solitary, learning to trust each other in a city where trust is always dangerous and kindness comes with a price.

As the city ignites, with templars and mages circling, debts resurfacing, and trust growing thin, every secret becomes a weapon. In Kirkwall, survival means choosing sides, even when the line between ally and enemy is always shifting.
