For as much as he'd meant it at the time – just a few hours ago – Tenna was beginning to relent to the fact that maybe Spamton's concerns weren't misplaced, actually.
He'd been a bit run down a couple days now. Fatigue, stuffy head, some aches and pains. Spamton hadn't said anything until that morning, when the cough developed rather abruptly. About halfway through the workday, Tenna began feeling feverish.
Now, at about seven o'clock, he felt like he was recovering from being hit by a sledgehammer.

He had wanted to have a shared drink of whiskey after a successful ad shoot, but, just after picking up the bottle the phone had rang. He'd placed the bottle on the table beside his glass with a clink and picked up the phone with a desperate relaxedness, spinning the wire in his finger.
He'd been smiling. It was probably audible to whatever was on the other end of the line.
He wasn't smiling when the phone call was over.He'd been yelling, calling the phone a coward and a liar and trying to swear, but all that escaped his mouth was bit-crushed shrieks because this demon had somehow changed him to his very being and, holy fuck he was under this thing's complete control.

The phone had rang, like it always did, but Spamton was not prepared for what the entity sneered into his ear this time.

“Do you think… we can become anything beyond what we’re made of?”
… is the first question posed to the Wanderer, upon reuniting with his new “friend”—the little kid born out of that fictional storybook containing one too many magical energy to be lying around in a random corner of the Akademiya.
The Wanderer laughs. Perhaps such philosophies simply come as a byproduct of creation as opposed to the natural cycle of birth and death—that, for some higher-order reason, they should find themselves being brought to existence, left to grow into the “flesh” that has been given to them without clear instruction as to how. Durin stares at him much like a lost child, like a duck imprinting upon the hen—like his word will come to define his world.
“You were made of ink—printed words, painted shapes,” is all he said, before turning around, sleeves and ribbons swaying gracefully under the benediction of the wind.
Inhuman humans, each somewhere along their journeys for the meaning of existence.
