Mikasa looked down at her, observing her with narrowed eyes now. Upon closer examination, Annie’s ears seemed flushed, but her ice-blue eyes appeared sure and steady, the flicker of fire in them caused by the fireplace next to them.
Her chest burned, and she realized, all of a sudden, Annie was affected by Mikasa’s state as much as she was. This knowledge was somehow having Mikasa regain control of herself, despite her front teeth prodding at her bottom lip.
Mikasa attempted to concentrate, her head lowering, and her back curving. One arm reached out, hesitating at first, before she willed herself to move slowly, wrapping it around Annie’s slim waist. One glance out of the dark window, and Mikasa could dazedly decipher the snowflakes falling gentler now. Mikasa took a breath in, attempting to keep herself reigned in.
Her arm pushed, heaving Annie up slightly to position her against Mikasa in a way that didn’t require Mikasa to lean down. It was more efficient that way. She barely noticed the blood rushing to Annie’s pale cheeks now, subtle. Mikasa’s steel eyes flashed, and she exhaled shakily, the natural fresh scent of Annie swirling in the air at close proximity now.

Summary
“Do you want to do it here or outside?” Mikasa gave her the lenient option of choosing her fate, as she regarded her from above. Her calm tone left no room for argument.
Annie raised her chin, bits of her last energy put into narrowing her ice-blue eyes, detached. "Doesn't… matter,” she croaked, her voice husky and unused. Her fingers twitched to reach up to her burning throat.
She had a feeling Mikasa was planning something unusual, hence the unexpected precaution. Or a sense of laughable privacy for Annie’s remaining dignity.
But perhaps, as Annie forced herself up on her weakened feet, it was Mikasa hiding herself from the world. She felt a cold hand settle on her hot back, barely assisting with a formal distance. It felt rarely comforting, rather a burn down her back.

“Did Armin like it?” The question, so unlike Mikasa but reflecting her straightforwardness, caught Annie off guard, and her ears turned warm, something like rare embarrassment in her otherwise numb body spreading.
“What?”
The rag returned, warm again, lowering towards the end of Annie’s aching spine. As if almost soothing her. Annie shivered.
“I…didn’t expect someone like you wanting to know,” Annie then admitted, drifting off, having been forced into a corner, and she exhaled, subconsciously relaxing when the cloth wandered back up between her shoulder blades again.
“What doesn’t make me qualified to want to know?” retorted the cool voice, and Annie visibly dropped her shoulders, somehow more comfortable with Mikasa’s usual stoicism and low tone. She recalled, dryly, the obvious affection Mikasa had for Eren, especially the surge of possessiveness over him when Annie had attempted to take Eren away.
