Summary
TLDR: A TWDG AU in which Clementine develops an autoimmune disease, type 1 diabetes, and the physical, emotional, and social issues that follow. After all, zombie apocalypses aren't easy, being a kid ain't easy, and type 1 diabetes isn't easy. All 3 is a nightmare.
When I first came up with the idea for this AU, it was when I was reading about type 1 diabetes mellitus, one of the most common autoimmune diseases in general, and also one of the most common in children and teenagers. The Walking Dead has almost no diabetics, which is understandable, but at the same time, people would still be developing autoimmune disorders, wouldn't they? Disabilities don't stop just because zombies are up and walking around.
The title of the series comes from the song "In the Water" by the indie band Anadel, which was featured as the end-credits song for TWDG episode "All that Remains". That's also where the title for the first story comes from.
Disclaimer: Human medicine as written by a veterinary assistant. Diabetes as written by someone with congenital hypoglycemia (the opposite of diabetes). I did my research, but I can’t know everything.

Frustrated, Clementine turned back with a huff, following their fresh tracks before they began to disappear. "Violet, we have to go back to the shack. We can't just stumble around out here." Just because walkers were slower in the winter didn't mean they couldn't still be a threat. Especially as she was getting wet from snow and sweat, and it was chilling her to the bone.
"Fuck... fuck..." Violet quietly berated herself as she relented, turned and hurriedly caught up to Clementine's side, keeping close as to not get separated. She couldn't believe how quickly this weather had set in, and how much it obscured her vision. Violet had never been caught in such a storm before.
But it was not Clementine's first bad storm, and as the two trudged together through the quickly accumulating snow, she wished they had just left with the two fish when they had the chance.
Walking around, lost in the woods, in the snow and the blinding fog.
It brought back dreadful memories.

Enid felt her eyes widen, “Wha - ? How? Why?!”, She blurted out.
Wednesday rolled her eyes playfully, “Can’t explain right now. And for the last one – why not? For you, I would willingly restrain myself from committing murder and other forms of violent acts.”
And somehow, this was the most romantic thing she had heard until that moment, because for Wednesday, it was… it was nearly a confession of pure unadulterated love.
In that moment, Enid discovered how hot her blood could run. The way her whole body had flushed at those words in that exact moment before they hit the surface of cold, unbelievably freezing water; yet Enid didn’t experience the feeling of getting wet.
