Summary
Realistically Martyn was aware that he need not suffer out in these temperatures as Ren had ensured that more than enough clothing be provided both for the two that inhabited these walls and his fellow knights of Dogwarts. Always thinking about others, his king, it was one thing that Martyn admired so strongly, having that ability to put aside your own needs, to care about others so openly and freely. Martyn could never. If he were to leave the task at hand then who knows what would happen, even a moment's absence could mean that enemies climb over the walls, take everything that he and Ren had fought to build. He could not let that happen.

Summary
"Would you have me as I am?" The words spoken were quiet, timid, and the complete opposite of how they were usually spat out. He feared the answer he could receive, he feared the look he would see in Ren's eyes, full of hate as one word spilled from his mouth. Over and over.

Summary
For decades, magic users were prosecuted, killed, banished, or abandoned at birth. The kingdoms of the world feared the powers of those who could manipulate the laws of the universe, who could reach into energies undetectable by all others and change the outcomes of fate. Those who could speed up the rate at which a wound closed, stop the constant binding pull of the earth, live off of the energy of one's very soul and identity, and create weapons that could smite even the most resilient of the undead, to create, destroy, and change as one pleased.
That is, until the humble kingdom of Dogwarts is formed as a refuge for those of all magics. All is well until the king vanishes, presumed dead.
(Or: Martyn is forced to take the place of the King... but the decisions that come with it are not as straightforward as it seems.)

Summary

He looks to where Bdubs’ line of sight goes, and he sees the same guy from earlier being held up by his teammate.
Scar's first thought is, Oh god, he’s beautiful.

Summary
“It’s merely part of my work.” Martyn explains, bringing a slice of food to his plate, “It's required of me.”
The stranger sits across from him, soon to take his own slice, “Well, if you ever grow hopeless, I'm willing to offer my body to you.”
Martyn chuckles, waiting for the other to laugh back.
But there is no reciprocated laugh. There only remained silence.
This is not a love story, but a warning.
We oblige all not be like that of Martyn—a man who overdosed on eleutheromania, a tool who convinced himself that he is worthy of being loved.

Summary
“Maybe it’s because those first few nights spent underground are still imprinted in his mind; ash coated hair and worn out pickaxes, high pitched laughter strung out from his stupid jokes, an echo of camaraderie alight in their eyes. And he remembers thinking, oh, this is unfair.
Half lost in a dimly lit mineshaft. Diamonds shared in honour of tentative friendship. Loyalty shoved down his throat until he was choking on it.”
Pizza dies to a flurry of arrows, and Scar follows her to his grave in a haze of blinding crimson. Grian, sole survivor of the Sands, joins forces with Dogwarts, his once sworn enemy.
The truth of the matter, as it is wont to do, reveals itself to be much more complicated than first thought. Martyn tries his best to follow the unravelling thread.
Or, alternatively: Scar’s final death, and the ghosts he leaves behind (Pale White Horse AU).
