Despite all claiming to be the new harbinger of the human race, most archologies were set up using a familiar layout. You entered on the middle floor, where the entertainment and markets were, just above you were the densely packed apartments, and above that was for the upper class. At the very top was the Penthouse, where the archology owner lived. Below the ground usually held any military barracks or manufacturing. Only the poorest of your regular citizen ever trekked into the depths; that honor was reserved for slaves. Avid would know. He'd spent half his life down in one.
The power of the Penthouse was absolute. There were worse kinds of slave.

Michael learned pretty quickly that Ennard didn't know what personal space was. He would wake up and they'd be standing there, gazing down at him. Somehow, Michael knew that if they could drool, they would have been. Honestly, Michael didn't sleep the first couple nights, but at this point, if they wanted to kill him, they would have done it a long time ago.
Ennard tries their best to be human again.

Summary
Honestly, all his friends did it, it wasn't just Tanner, even back then. Even at his worst, everyone would take turns on the "let's dunk on Eric" train, and he openly encouraged it. It was fine, that's just how friends are, you make fun of each other. If you take it seriously, that just means you're weak, and they'll leave behind the weak.
Eric finds that there's pleasure in tearing yourself down.

Summary
Michael goes from being a frustrated teenager who just wants to be free to 'hang out' and 'have fun' like other kids his age, to a strangely quiet and much more well-behaved one. The change makes William suspicious, especially as his son not only seems more calmed down, but also strangely tired all the time now.
William finds out why and makes the best choices he can from there, as a father who loves his eldest son more than he ever realized. And in ways he never realized.

The thing’s bulging eyes laid themselves upon you. You hadn’t seen a dead person’s eyes in your life, they had always been closed, but you knew these were not a corpse’s eyes. They were dead, but dead in the way only a living being could have. You knew that this thing was intentionally making eye contact with you. It was the stare of a person.
rewrote some of deranged, well see if i continue. im infamously unreliable. this one is way more evil and darker bc my old one was literally just a crackfic appealing to the masses. i reject you, old deranged. this one is meant to be horror focused!
