Summary
Queen Mary dies on a Tuesday.
Despite the fact he’s pretty sure he has a good few “how outdated is the monarchy???” thinkpieces in him at any given time, Alex does not like any of the tweets, and he deliberately avoids posts from people he knows would delight in having something they could spin into a bisexual Mexican–American trying to topple the monarchy. For now, anyway.
Basically, he has to hand Cash his phone. He is such a good boyfriend.
Although he does reply to Pez’s text of the audio to Ding, Dong the Witch is Dead (and accompanying confetti gifs) with a long series of ellipses and then a thumbs up.

Those same eyes were now assessing Ilya as they waited for Shane and Yuna to finish their talk outside. There was no censure in David’s gaze; merely curiosity. Ilya was used to disappointed fathers; he didn’t know what to do with a kind one.

Henry blinks a couple of times and sits up quickly. He gives a cursory glance to David on the back seat, checking he’s still there – as though he hasn’t been asleep since the second they pulled out of their street – and leans over to look out of the window.
‘Alex,’ he breathes. He’s quiet for a minute, then murmurs, ‘it’s beautiful.’ Henry turns to him with narrowed eyes, both suspicion and mirth glinting happily in them. ‘What are you planning?’
Alex simply reaches over and clasps Henry’s hand with his own, then brings them to his lips. ‘Happy birthday, baby.’

The Brownstone stirs for the first time since its original owners built it on an ordinary Tuesday in October. The last sigh of summer air follows the realtor into its entryway, desperate to escape the chill of an autumn breeze right behind it.
The buyer has an intriguing mix of seldom-used authority and a dark shadow of grief at the foundation of his soul, but also love – so much love. It swirls around him in long ribbons, as though the shining tendrils refuse to go further than arm’s reach for fear they’d get left behind. It hasn’t seen love stream so loyally, so stubbornly, behind a human in its own many years of caring for its humans. That must have been what woke The Brownstone.

The thing to do - Alex decides, mind flying at a million miles an hour as he lies in bed that evening, unable to get it to shut off long enough for him to sleep - is to do an experiment of sorts. If there’s one thing his brain likes, it’s logic. Chronological lists, including everything from his exact graduation requirements to a timeline of David’s walks built around their work schedules to the groceries they need for the week, scratch that itch in a way that so few things do for him, for example.
What he needs is data, a voice in his head that sounds suspiciously like Nora finally settles on. More examples to work with, more pieces to the puzzle, more clues that he can list out until connections can be made.
So he starts leaving little notes everywhere.

In which Alex and Henry get married, share a very famous kiss, and exchange their own, hand-written vows privately after the fact.
"Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that I would get this moment and have it mean something.”Alex takes a step closer to him, until their feet are tangled together between them. “Yeah?" He reaches up to settle his arms on Henry's shoulders, to gently pull him down to his level, fingers fiddling with the soft tufts of hair covering the nape of his neck. The crowd below falls significantly quieter, like they're holding their breath in anticipation, and it pulls a smirk out of Alex to hear just how wrapped around their fingers they have the world in this moment. "Well then, I suppose you owe me a kiss, husband."
