Suddenly, the world is white and very, very fluffy. A scratchy tongue swipes a second path across Kaveh’s face.
“Hey, that’s not for eating,” he mumbles, pushing a palm towards the wooly beast that continues to comb his hair with the barbs of its tongue. A searing pain in his shoulder distracts him. “Honestly, my luck. I…” he begins, the words dying on his lips as his eyes land on jagged shards of metal producing from what looks like a branch, or a… “wing?”
A shift of his body confirms that the metal contraption is both wing-shaped and solidly affixed to his back. Panicking, he tries to reach for the metallic feathers that melt into gears closer to the bone. “How…” Wincing after cutting his hand on the edges, in his peripheral he catches sight of something equally as fluffy as the critter beside him. Another wing. A real wing.
Kaveh is transported into a world where everyone has wings, his "father" is alive, and Alhaitham is the most frustrating person he's ever met. Maybe not everything is so different after all.

Alhaitham has apparently decided to go about seducing Kaveh in the stupidest manner possible. And yet, that absurdity pales in comparison to Kaveh’s own stupidity—because somehow, against all reason, his roommate’s idiotic attempts to seduce him are working.
Kaveh turns to glare at Alhaitham, and Alhaitham stares back at him levelly—which only makes indignation boil hotter in Kaveh’s gut, even as his eyes drift to Alhaitham’s infuriating lips and start replaying that memory from this morning.
He knows what he saw. He’d watched as Alhaitham rounded his lips, took that banana far into his throat, and slowly dragged his mouth up the length, flicking his tongue at the tip. He’d seen Alhaitham start to repeat the motion, pausing with his eyes locked onto Kaveh’s—and then, with a half-lidded stare, he’d casually taken a bite and walked out of the room, brushing against Kaveh as he left.
Kaveh had been completely awake. And whatever the fuck Alhaitham was doing, it had been completely intentional.

Attempting a more sultry tone than usual, Kaveh exhaled a breath of laughter. “I'd rather blow your dad too. Mr. H can get it,” he whispered.
Zakaria barked out a laugh as he leaned closer and ran a hand through Kaveh's hair. “He's seething,” Zakaria whispered in his ear. “Seething. He looks like he's about to explode. It's working, dude... gods, he looks a little scary, actually. Hope he doesn't stab me. When he's drilling you later tonight after my master plan works out flawlessly make sure to remind him that I'd rather fuck a tree stump than touch you like this so I can still be best man at your wedding.”
Or; Kaveh’s childhood friend is sick of watching him and Alhaitham pine helplessly after one another, so he devises a plan to make Alhaitham jealous. Kaveh, under the impression that Alhaitham won’t notice - let alone care - is pleasantly surprised by the result as an entirely new side of Alhaitham is revealed to him.

With love laced into the ink Kaveh had long since stopped believing in, something beautiful finally begins to take shape once more.
There, standing beneath the stupid Books sign and holding his helmet in one hand... was Alhaitham. He was older and broader - somehow impossibly more attractive - but it was undeniably him.
Kaveh staggered to a halt in the middle of the street and tried to recall how to breathe as he devoured the sight of the same handsome bone structure he had spent years trying to either find or forget - only now more chiseled, more ruggedly defined... more ruinous.
Alhaitham’s eyes, at least, hadn’t changed at all. With a breath that caught audibly in his throat, Kaveh lost himself in the piercing, hypnotic teal irises that he hadn’t seen since their gazes last locked across a study table in the high school library.

And that was a truly terrifying thought, indeed.
Plagued by nightmares and increasing grief, only fond memories of Wriothesley seem to offer Neuvillette any comfort. But when Neuvillette quietly tiptoes into the Duke’s office late one evening and confesses, both find themselves faced with a choice: continued isolation or love's uncharted path.
For those exhausted by life’s burdens, perhaps it’s only a love that can be found in each other's embrace that can offer true respite.
