“You…?” Sephiroth starts. He’s looking at Cloud like he hung the stars; given the fact that he’s part planet-destroying calamity, however, his expression is more complicated than one might expect.
Really, he just looks confused.
“I dunno,” Cloud answers with a sigh before he’s even asked. “Got a weird bug up my ass to do it. Same reason you wanted to spar naked in the living room, probably.”
Cloud has a normal one. Sephiroth is just happy to provide.

With a long exhale and after rolling his shoulders through the beginnings of a headache, Angeal took a few more cautious steps forward, finally able to make out Alissa and Sephiroth at the top of a short set of stairs. He couldn’t glean much from Sephiroth’s expression, but his chin was tilted up toward a familiar building, his lips parted slightly in either awe or some other form of stupefaction.
“...shouldn’t go inside without them, no matter if…can handle it…” he replied, his voice oddly flat. “I’d...leaving them susceptible to…”
Angeal blinked. Huh… ‘On your own’...'them’...
It took him a moment to figure out what he found so strange about Sephiroth’s response, and when Alissa chimed in again, it dawned on him: With the context he had, Sephiroth was acting like she wasn’t there.
Shortly after turning in for the night, Angeal hears Alissa and Sephiroth leave their tents.

It was a half-baked command without preamble. In an instant, Sephiroth was back to the resolute hardass he’d been before discovering Cloud beneath the piano. His expression was shuttered and his mouth was a thin line. More terrifying still was the way his pupils had narrowed into razor-thin slits, inadvertently displaying more of his irises’ eerie, ectoplasmic green.
“Why? Because I’m ’not supposed to be here’?”
“Precisely that, yes.”
Cloud felt himself growing frustrated again. “Oh yeah? And what about you, huh? What’s some big-shot SOLDIER doing out in Nibelheim, anyway?”
Wherever Cloud goes, Sephiroth will follow.

”At ease,” Sephiroth said. “It’s just me.”
Huh?
Glenn rolled onto his back and sat up in a single clumsy motion, startled.
“You’ve gotta be joking, kid.” He saw Sephiroth wince and remembered he wasn’t supposed to be talking down to him anymore. “You scared the piss outta me, sneaking in like that. What’s up?”
He didn’t bother interrogating Sephiroth about why he felt he had permanent access to his tent, nor why he thought it was acceptable to stroll in so late. At first, this was because he thought the matter must be urgent—surely it had to be if waking him up was necessary—but then, Sephiroth looked a bit lost and forlorn, his eyes falling to his feet the same way it had at the Rhadoran fortress earlier that day. All bets were off, apparently.
”I didn’t mean to disturb you. May I sit for a moment?” he asked.
Sephiroth traumadumps. Glenn does his share of both giving and taking.

“Tell me, Cloud. Do you sleep more soundly with someone beside you?” Sephiroth asked, keeping his tone conversational. “I’m familiar with the barracks back in Midgar, and they don’t allow for much privacy. Some Troopers end up in our clinics for a sort of…separation anxiety. The tyrannical behavior on display from our most lauded captains only reinforces that bond. Shared trauma, they say.”
Cloud froze, suddenly unsure about the trajectory of their conversation.
“I’m an only child, if that’s what you’re asking.”
Sephiroth’s lips twitched into a small smile, his silvery eyelashes fluttering alongside it. Cloud was suddenly much more attuned to the minutiae of his movements, maybe even hypervigilant. “As am I,” Sephiroth said evenly. “That wasn’t what I was asking.”
The night after Cloud’s convoy arrives in Nibelheim, he finds himself plagued by nightmares. His superior officer extends a (seemingly) generous hand.

He began moving slowly, watching Cloud fight the urge to gag; every time he pushed back inside, saliva trickled out around his girth and down Cloud’s chin. He wondered how much of himself existed within it after the first few decisive thrusts, salt marinated in salt as tears and cum and drool began to wet Cloud’s face. “You are incapable of free thought, and even more than that, true expression. The people around you—the ones who flock to you and reinforce the existence of these ‘precious memories’—are nothing more than convenient allies, content to use you like a tracking hound before discarding you.” Then, in a moment of far-reaching projection, “You are a tool.”
When Cloud falls into the seemingly bottomless chasm where the Temple of the Ancients once stood, there’s no one at the bottom—or in another world—to keep him grounded.

Eren opened the door slowly, the van still running, and slid out of his seat, wobbling as he found his footing. He used a hand to help keep him upright as he edged to the front of the vehicle, his long-forgotten joint still threaded between his teeth.
The boy was long-limbed. Tall. He had something akin to a caramel-colored mullet, the undersides buzzed and neglected, like he was trying to grow them out. His face was long, too: angular, with slim features. Eren knew this face. He’d given it a black eye once. He’d broken that nose, too, back when both of them were still in the process of shedding their baby fat and hadn’t figured out why eating their own boogers was disgusting yet.
”Oh, you’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” Jean growled, holding his arm at an odd angle. “If it isn’t patient-goddamn-zero, here to save the day.”
Eren is one misstep away from homelessness. Jean is a studying to become a doctor. After harboring nearly a decade of mutual animosity, they collide.

They maintained eye contact for what felt like an eternity, Armin silently pleading Eren to confide in him and Eren betraying nothing but deep-seated malaise and a general air of irritability.
“Yeah, that’s what I thought,” Eren murmured in confirmation, shaking him off.
This time, Eren doesn't venture as far from the Azumabito estate.
