“Run away with me,” Janus Hunag says, tossing Roman a motorcycle helmet.
It’s nearly dark, the sky dripping with ruby red and shimmering gold. Janus, with his mismatched eyes and leather jacket and snakebite piercings, is a spot of darkness, framed against the richness of the bejeweled sky. They won’t get anywhere before night creeps in. They’re barely adults, broke and irresponsible and tied down with so many lashes to this place they both grew up in.
“Alright,” Roman says. “Let’s go.”

Summary
A collection of one-shots for Sympathetic Deceit Week!
1. Virgil is preoccupied with his boyfriend, and his best friend, D.C., is feeling a bit insecure. High School AU.
2. Roman and Deceit do improv together. Flirting, breaking character, and sword fighting ensues.
3. Logan is going to find out the texture of Deceit’s scales by any means necessary. For science only, obviously. Deceit is alarmed. Patton, Virgil, and Roman wonder when these idiots will get their acts together.
4. Deceit is part snake, and his boyfriends deal with it. Shenanigans, snuggles, and sleepy love confessions result. (Absolutely no plot; just fluff)
5. Patton and Deceit deal with pining after each other in the most obvious way: a prank war.
6. Deceit knows that he is in love with Anxiety, but now Anxiety is with the light sides, and he is alone in the subconscious.
7. Five times Deceit heard the sides say “I love you” to each other, and one time they all said it to him. -

Day 22: Shared Eyesight
*
Logan keeps his eyes closed when the extraterrestrials drag him into the room, slowing his breathing and relaxing his muscles into figurative dead weight. His abductors clearly have no in-depth knowledge of human physiology, because his sudden relaxation after being drugged nearly an hour before is taken in stride. They leave him on the cold floor, sound fading as they abandon what they think is his unconscious body.
Then, as always happens when Logan’s eyes are shut for more than a minute, his soulmate’s view swims into sight.
Dull white walls and a white floor; two tanned arms, one noticeably more scarred than the other; a thick metal door and sleek electronic shackles on both ankles. Logan is familiar with the sight, but it still makes his jaw clench, causes his fingers to curl into fists.

Virgil doesn’t turn to stone when he pulls off the mask. Gorgon doesn’t even twitch, either- just lays there on the back seat of Virgil’s roughed-up Camry, burns weeping, and breathes.
His eyes are closed. Virgil isn’t about to mistake that for genuine unconsciousness.
“Before you freak out about identities or whatever,” Virgil settles on saying just in case, chest tight, “I’d like to point out that-” He has to swallow just saying it- “Half of your face is burned to shit. Even if I knew you in real life, I wouldn’t be able to recognize you now.”

He had thought they would kill him.
Instead the Pirate Captain, with eyes so light they looked yellow, had looked down at Virgil, as his crew cut into the hapless sailors. Virgil could still feel where the man had clutched his jaw with those silk gloves and forced Virgil to look up at him, at those unreadable eyes, and he could still hear the ringing voice in his head as the man called him “Pretty” and said he’d “fetch a good price”.

Summary
Virgil exhales shakily, just one breath away from sobbing. There so many things he wants to say, but they all get caught up in the lump in his throat.
He wants to scream, but he knows where that will get him, knows what that would do to Dee. He wants to cry and beg and curl up in a ball where nothing can touch him, but the first two haven’t done anything in the past endless hours, and the last one has been made impossible by the way his arms were zip tied behind his back and around the pole. He squeezes his eyes closed and tries to pretend like the voice of Dee over the phone is him really just sitting next to Virgil on the bed talking him out of a panic induced spiral.
“Just breathe for me, Liebing,” Dee says. “Just breathe. I’ll get you out of there.”
Virgil inhales sharply. “I-- I know,” He manages with a wet laugh. “I kn-now you will. And I-- I’ll kill you m-myself for this.”

Summary
Cities are full of bright lights and shadows alike. Those that live in the light, the heroes, the 'good guys.' Those that live in the shadows, their grisly work only illuminated when the sun deigns to show its face again. Sometimes the shadows are too deep. Sometimes the spotlights are too much.
The Prince, Roman Prince, is the Golden Boy of the city. The newsreels, the cameras, the public adore him. But they don't see the winces when the bulbs go off right in his face, or whispers to be better, do better, perform better from the people that pull him aside after every daring adventure.
No one knows the name Janus, but they know his work. They don't shout, they whisper. They huddle together in the dark, searching for the light so as not to get caught in his coils.
But sometimes, when spotlights are too bright and shadows too flat, a little prince will make its way into the snake's den.

Summary
This is the worst part, honestly. It's not the frantic churning in his gut when he uses his magic, it's not the icy dread of what happens right after when he's trying frantically to avoid suspicion, it's not even the looks he gets when there's a few too many knights looking at him.
It's when they're back in the safety of Janus's chambers and Janus is swanning around like he's the one that saved the day, and he takes the opportunity to get as many insults into Virgil as he can.

When the nearby kingdom falls to ruin by corrupt officials taking advantage of their own monarch’s ailing health, it is only natural that Logan should suggest that the King and Queen take in the royal child while the kingdom is sorted out. After all, there is no place for a child in the hotbeds of greedy nobles, and this had been the one place he had known before his life changed irrevocably.
